Looking for Wedding Prep Workout Buddy

I am getting married in March 2013 and would love to start a group for people in the St. Clair Shores area of people who want to get in shape for their weddings!  I go to the Planet Fitness gym but also attempt to go running (very slowly!)  Either working out together or just being accountability partners would be awesome!  I am looking to lose 20 pounds in the next 27 weeks :)

  • I don't live in the St Clair Shores area (I split my time between Dearborn and Grand Blanc), but am also looking for someone to be accountable with. I also belong to Planet Fitness and have started running (slowly). I completed the Couch to 5K program and want to run another 5K in the next few months. 

    My wedding is in April 2013 and I would like to lose 30 lbs

    I'm getting married October 2013.  I'm also looking to lose 20-25lbs.  I live in Southfield and work downtown Detroit.  I workout at LA Fitness.  I'm also a runner, play soccer, and roller derby.  My problem is portion control.  Even with all my sports activities my curves are getting out of control because of my love for Frito Lay, sweet potato fries (with honey), Qdoba, and White Castle (yes, I said it....White Castle)...just to name a few of my food vices.  I would love to meet up with other folks to workout and/or be an accountability buddy.

  • regardless if you are able to get a group together...a great way to hold yourself accoutable is to sign up for a 5k or other races that force you to get in shape...

  • I live in Novi and work in Detroit. I belong to Planet Fitness too. I'm getting married in Oct 2013 as well :) and want to lose about 50lbs or so.
  • MMRoberts - I usually work out at the LA Fitness on 8 mile in Southfield or on Telegraph in Southfield.  The thing about LA Fitness I like is that I can work out at almost any of its facilities.
  • Have you heard of myfitnesspal.com? It is free and it will tell you how many calories that you need to eat per day (factoring exercise) to lose X amount of lbs a week. I just joined last month and everyone on there is super nice and motivating. You can get lots of ideas for recipes and log your food so you know exactly what you are eating and how many calories you have left. It is a pretty neat site :) If you join you can look me up - user name kclynn7. I'm getting married in July 2013 and have baby weight to lose before then.
  • I live in Royal Oak and am trying to stay on track towards being fit, healthy and comfy in my own skin.  Maybe the OP can do a regular post like they do on the Getting in Shape board but in this case just for brides in this area.  On the Getting in Shape board someone regularly posts Workout Accountability Wednesday or some other day of the week where everyone can hold each other accountable.  Then maybe in addition to whomever joins you to work out on a regular basis you can perhaps eventually organize a workout/meetup GTG like through a pre-organized 5k or something similar.  I'm not in the SCS area but I would post my progress on here with you all and come to a GTG.  Just an idea.
  • I live in Farmington and work out at the Fitness 19 in Farmington. I go to the gym a lot with my fiance but we usually do our own separate workouts and lately we both have had struggled with getting the motivation to go. I would really like to lose 20 lbs before my wedding and we hope to get married in April.

     No, the Planet Fitness in Southgate is much nicer (and in a better area)

    I was thinking of signing up for my first 5K in several years!  Have you seen the Outrun Hunger 5K in Commerce Township on November 3rd?

  • It's awesome that so many of us are trying to get in shape and lose weight the healthy way.  I am pretty mobile and love in St. Clair Shores but my fiance lives in Canton so I am always there which means I workout at pretty much every Planet Fitness between SCS and Canton along 696 haha. 

    I'm pretty new to the board so I am not exactly sure how to do this, but would any of you want to do like a weight-loss group locally like zanster said where we post our workout goals and do a weekly weigh in or even just post how much we have lost or how good we feel?  I definitely don't want to be super obsessive about weight because that isn't healthy but I think if we could motivate each other and be accountable, that would be awesome.

    I'm thinking of signing up for a 5k in a couple months if anyone is interested in training for it with me!
