reception card wording--St John's

Hi all
My wedding is at St. John's wtih the ceremony starting at 3pm,  the cocktail hour at 6pm & dinner at 730. Everything is at St. John's & the cocktail hour is in a separate room from the ballroom, but they are right next to eachother.  How would you word a reception card for this??? I can't say reception immediately following because its not. Would I say something like:

"Please join us this evening for dinner and dancing in the Grande Ballroom. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres begin at 6 o'clock in the Garden Gallery Room"

All the examples I found online are kinda lame.

Thanks!

  • I like what you have!

Is there a reason the ceremony and cocktail hour are so far apart? That's a pretty big gap for people to leave, find something to do, and come right back to the same place.

  • If your reception is taking place at the same place you're having you ceremony you do not need a reception card. Your invitation should say on the bottom something like "cocktails, dinner and dancing immediately following the reception."

She said the cocktails, dinner and dancing are NOT immediately following.

  • I like what you have but as mentioned above you do not need a reception card if it is at the same place.  I understand there is a gap but you could always include at the bottom of the invitation "Cocktails, hors d'oeurves, dinner and dancing at 6pm in the Garden Gallery Room."  You could always leave out the Garden Gallery Room and just put specifics in the program.

  • I have the same situation.  2pm wedding, with the cocktail hour and reception that evening.  our's reads like this (I substitued your times)

"please join us for hor d'oeuvres and cocktails at half past six o'clock in the evening followed by

dinner and dancing (big, pretty letters)
at half past seven o'clock in the eventing at

the inn at st. john's (also in bigger, pretty letters)
    grand ballroom"

our cocktail hour is also in another room right next to the main reception, but I only have the main room listed (grand ballroom).  you have to walk right past both of those other rooms to get to the reception, so it'll be evident for your guests where to go.  I also think st john's has signs up, but they list the name of the reception room, not the cocktail hour room.

  • My friend is getting married at the Inn @ St. John's in April - her invitation had a separate reception card (sure you don't have to put one ... but people might be confused so it's probably best just to add one) that stated:

"Please join us in the Atrium for cocktails and hors d'ouvres at six o'clock in the evening, followed by dinner and dancing."  Or something like that.

I don't think it's a big deal that there is such a gap because you're getting married and partying in the same spot. We booked a room and are looking forward to a quick nap in between hahahhaaha.

    Good luck!
