Olympic Figure Skating: We you up late....

I woke up this morning and saw this article. " The night they killed figure skating"

I'm not an expert but I think Lysacek worked his ass off.

Were you up late watching the showdown?

Stayed up late watching and it was well worth the wait.

Lisa, I stayed up to watch it all. I thought he did a fabulous job and deserved to win.

I'm watching the Olympics here and there in the evenings, depending on what they are showing.

I cannot believe they wrote that article. I think he did a fantastic job. I'm loving the winter Olympics this year.

I'm not usually a big winter olympics fan but I'm with Lisa... it's been a blast to watch this year.
And WTF was Johnny Weir wearing the other night?  (The black and pink corsety thing?!?)

I was not able to see Lysacek skate because I turned it on a little late. But I thought Johnny Weir got shafted a little bit. He did really good and ended up in 6th place. The reason why they may have said that in the headline is because Victor Pachenko (I know that's not even close) was the front-runner and supposed to win the competition. I saw him skate and thought he did a great job. But the commentators kept talking about how good Lysacek was compared to him. And he clearly didn't have it to win. The games have been great so far!

I know, poor Johnny. But you know what I think he was playing it safe due to PETA. lol

I agree that Johnny Weir got shafted. I'm not a big fan of him, but I thought he had a great skate last night! He totally deserved a higher score- especially since Victor Petrenko is one of his coaches! lol

Evan Lysacek earned the gold medal- aside from his way too gelled hair! It looks like a helmet.

I thought Evgeni Plusenko looked like he was flailing around like a fish and had no artistry in either of his programs. Big deal he had the quad- all his other jumps were tilted and poorly landed. Not to mention how he acted like he was all bada$$ with his scraggly chin pubes and stringy hair. Who does he think he is? Kid Rock?? He did not live up to all the hype.

I watched...but I normally don't because figure skating scoring is so effed up, it's not even funny.  It's more about popularity than how well you skate.  As a former figure skater, I'd much rather watch any other Winter Olympics sport.  Well maybe not curling...

You hit the nail on the head. He also comes off being very smug. I was hoping he didn't get the gold, just because. lol

P.S. Evan kicked Evgeni's a$$.  I do. not. like. Evgeni Plushenko.  For the record.

Taryn I feel yah on the curling. Its actually very annoying to watch.

I don't know anything about scoring or skating and I missed Evgeni's skate so I don't know if he did better. But I think its a bit over the top dramatic to say that the sport was "killed". How many times, in how many different sports, have there been controvesies over calls, scoring, etc. Its a part of the game IMO. I'm just glad the American guy won.

FYI Ice dance starts tonight and I know the top American team! Charlie White was one of my mom's students and we go to college together! I can guarantee they'll put on a spectacular show!!

And Evgeni had the nerve to get up on the podium where the gold winner, Evan was supposed to be "just so he could touch it." Get over yourself buddy. You still got a silver medal. Be happy with that. I didn't really think he should have medaled just because his jumps were sloppy and was not straight up and down on his turns.

Haha, I really sound like an ice skating critic, but the only time I ever watch ice skating is when its on at the Olymipcs.

P.S.- Elvis Stoijko is a baby. He had about as much finesse as a walrus on land in his heyday. His programs were all about the jumps, too. No wonder he's such an Evgeni supporter.

I stayed up too. :)  I don't want to sound un-American, but I was kind of surprised that Evgeni Plushenko didn't win.  I agree, he's totally full of himself, and I will admit that I know nothing about figure skating and how the scoring works.  But it does seem like you'd be rewarded big points for a big trick like a quad.  Just like with snowboarded (which I have been mesmerized by the last couple nights!), big risk should = big reward, you know?

I stayed up to watch and I know this is shallow, but Plushenko's nose and mullet are so distracting! ha! And I suddenly have a crush on Lysacek even tho he dates Tanith and is 10 yrs younger than me :) Johnny Weir is just entertaining... I preferred his routine to "Poker Face" tho!
