Help! WWYD??

My husbands hard drive on his computer with our excel spreadsheet list of gifts we received for our wedding crashed.  So we have NO documentation of what our guests gave us/bought us to write our thank you notes.

What would you do?

Thanks so much for your help....I can't believe this happened =(

Did anyone keep a list at the shower?  Is there any indication in the cards itself?  Maybe ask your mom if she remembers who gave you what.

I personally write what I give as a gift on the back of the greeting card. I don't know why, I just have always done that.

Following that, if you can't find any indication of what people gave you, I guess the only route you could really go is to write something generic on the thank-yous.  Not ideal, but better than not writing anything at all.  Or instead of thanking the gift by name, you could share a little something memorable from your day instead that involves them directly (if possible).

If people gave you checks, I would check your bank account to see if you can see copies of the checks to find out the names.

Could you contact the stores where you registered to see if they can help you with names?  Maybe they have credit card names on file?  It's a real long shot but you never know.

ETA:  are there photos from the shower?  Then you would at least have a general idea of what was a shower gift vs. what was a wedding gift.  Or if not photos, an old bridal bingo card with writing on it?

Could you collaborate with someone who watched you open them to see if they remember?  I would list as many presents as I could remember with the person who got it for you; I'd imagine you'd remember some of them.  Then at least you can write specific thank you's for those ones... and maybe it would trigger some memories when you see that there are only 10 people left without known gifts.  Hopefully that helps?  Good luck!

There must be a paper trail somewhere -- I'm guessing you wrote this down as you opened, then transferred to the computer.  Versus directly inputting to the computer.  I would try and find this list.  If not, try and find the person that wrote this list to see what they remember.  Also, involve both your parents to see what they remember.  Also, as Liz said, you can probably figure out a lot of them through the checks.  I'm guessing between all these, you can figure out a bulk of them.

Also, did you try to take FI's hard drive to a tech to see if anything is able to be recovered?
