Did you know......

I was reading wedding books at B&N yesterday night and I came across something interesting, It said that it is improper etiquette to use the Goom's last name initial in monograms. That it should only be used after the wedding. Thought that was kinda strange. Has anyone else heard this before??

I've heard of that as far as not using it for the ceremony/pre-wedding things, but only using it at the reception and after.  It kind of makes sense... I mean, you really don't both have that last name until after the ceremony.

But, I don't know how many people really follow that or would even notice!

Ditto PP.  I've also heard that, but if you've already printed stuff up, I wouldn't worry about it.  No one will notice.  But technically, you don't take his name until after you're married, so you're supposed to use just your first initials on invites and other pre-wedding things.  But you can use his initial for stuff at the reception since you'll be married at that point.

I've heard that...and actually decided against an invite that I really liked because it had a big monogrammed initial on it.  I wouldn't worry about it if you've already used it, though.  We are only using monograms on our drink napkins and on the photobooth strips.

Yes, I've heard that too. Like everyone else said, I doubt anyone would notice.

Yep, I've heard that. And it makes sense, really..at least for ceremony related items, invitations, etc. because really at the time people get those, you don't share the same last name (well, I guess it's a possibility but anyway).

While I'm trying to follow 'basic etiquette' when it comes to my wedding. Emily Post is not inviited and I'm pretty sure most of my guests won't know if I followed proper etiquette or not on certian things so I'm not stressing out over a lot of it. This attitude could come from the fact that I am finally nearing the end of my 22-month planning adventure though lol.

I've heard that. That's why I made two monograms, one for before the wedding with our first names and an "&" for the invites, programs, etc. The other one I made is with our last inital and I used it on favors, menus, etc for the reception.

Yeah, I'd heard that too.  That's why I decided to only use our monogram on our photostrips and escort cards at the reception.

I had no idea this even existed. We had a "P" put in the background of our invite. No one has said anything. And I could care less if they do!
