I couldn't have asked for a better weekend to get married. We got soooo lucky and had sunny skies and 75 degree weather all weekend.... for October! Usually its already snowing or something like that in Michigan!
I started to get a little nervous before the Rehearsal dinner and ended up being an hour late due to horrendous traffic. Luckily everyone was late and we were able to quickly walk through it and head to dinner. DH's parents hosted a beautiful rehearsal dinner.
Saturday was awesome! The morning started out with all the girls hopping into bed with me and we just hung out until we had to head to our hair appointments. Eventually we made it to the church and got ready to walk down the aisle. As soon as I saw DH everything came together.
Bits of advice:
Live in the moment. Make sure you step back throughout the day and just look around you. I honestly was not nervous once I woke up on Saturday. I think because I just soaked everything in instead of focusing on what was coming up. I was so calm and relaxed, it actually made the day not fly by.
Things will go wrong, but they don't matter. By Thursday night, I just came to a point and accepted that it is what it is. Nothing major went wrong, but we did have an issue with the flowers, but in no way did that affect the day.
Dance. We danced so much that on Sunday when we woke up I was pretty sure we ran a marathon or something. All I drank that night was glass after glass of water. I never had to use the bathroom....that's how much I danced.
Don't be afraid to ask for help. During the whole planning process, we didn't really ask for help with anything. When your day comes, you won't be able to handle everything, so make sure you ask for help. Don't be afraid to ask, because your family and friends are there to help you with anything.
Get your dress hemmed shorter than your shoes. I had my dress hemmed for the shoes that I wore for the ceremony which were a bit higher. I ended up switching into my dance shoes which were short, because they were more comfortable. Everyone and myself kept stepping on my dress and the bustle kept coming loose. I eventually ended up without any shoes, and gave up on trying to be careful with the dress.
Don't take a honeymoon the day after your wedding or leave right from your wedding. We decided to wait a week before leaving and I am so happy we are. Last week I couldn't even begin to think about packing. Plus we are so tired from Saturday, we need a few days to recover and I would hate to waste that when we could be on the beach doing fun things.
Don't plan on doing anything the day after. You will want to sleep and just veg the next day.
Have an awesome wedding and enjoy every moment of it. Be thankful for all the friends and family that are there. It doesn't matter how many are there, because those who are there are genuinely there for you.
