Priceline or Hotwire.com

I am getting ready to use it, but I'm kind of scared that I will be placed in a hotel that I don't like. Can anyone share experiences that you have had? Any tricks to it? Which site is the best?I'm just looking for hotel only for a trip coming up to Poughkeepsie New York. The hotels are expensive out there (over $100 each night) considering the area and what each hotel has to offer..so I'm just curious about this Priceline and Hotwire option...

TIA!

I've used both.. and I've had great experiences with both.

You just have to make sure you tell it where you want the hotel and how many stars. Those are really the only things that would make or break your trip. It being too far from where you want it and it being a low star. I'd pick 4-5 stars.

I used priceline one year when Andy and I went to Chicago for New Years Eve.  One thing I did was request only 4 or 5 star hotels.  Typically, I am OK with a 3 star hotel, but without knowing what I'd get, I didn't want to chance it.  I also totally low-balled the offer.  We were going for 3 nights and I bid $95 a night on a 4 or 5 star hotel....and we got it!  Afterwards, I went to the hotel directly to book and it would have been more than twice the cost.

My advice: up your standards a little bit and start low on costs.

    Hi Robin,

Everytime FI and I use priceline we also check out this site:

    http://www.betterbidding.com/

You can narrow in on your area that you'll be staying and see what kinds of deals people received on hotels so that you know what to expect.

We also tend to get EXTREMELY specific (i.e., we make sure we click 3 or 4 stars, and narrow in on a specific neighborhood) and we've never been disappointed!

sign up for Travel Ticker by Hotwire....amazing deals on there each week...its pretty much my most looked foward to email right now! The deals usually run for the next few months...but there are some that have dates avaiable well to the end of the yeard and then some.

Even though we want to go on a cruise, I have my eye on these deals. Also get flight deals too.

I love it. Hope that helps!
