Question about PM paging

I asked this in the other thread but since its dead I realized I probably won't get an answer there.

So my question is - why do people have a problem with the PM pages?

I genuinely don't understand what the big deal is.

I vented about it the other day in the Confessions/Vent thread.  I just made some joke about how I felt that there must've been a lot of secrets going on because everybody was PMing everybody.  Honestly, I hate PMs because I still use the weddings.com link so then I have to go open TK to actually get my PMs.  So I am protesting them.

My pming doesn't even work.  I feel like an idiot but I got pm or recieve them!  Not sure why!

For me, I guess it's because no other forum I have ever been on uses a paging system to tell someone they have a PM. BUT since the email notification doesn't work you pretty much have to here.

If/when they do get email notifications working then people should stop. You don't send people a message on facebook and the go to their wall and tell them.

Huh?  What do you mean?

In the bottom of the sidebar on the left of TK, there is a link for "Private Messages" -- click on that and it will open in a new window.

It doesn't work properly, that's why I don't understand why people mind - obviously it would be obnoxious if the system functioned properly. But the chances of it ever working right...slim to none lol.

Julie - I (obviously) missed that post in the confessions thread. I can see why it would be annoying since there's no link for you to easily access them. I guess its just that I can think of reasons why people may want to ask someone about something privately and I simply don't get why people care.

I completely understand that some things are personal and you don't want to post it publicly.  But seriously...one day almost every other thread was a page about a PM and it felt excessive.  I vented about it and it wasn't geared towards anyone, just a general vent.  Stupid?  Yes.  But isn't that what vent threads are for??

When I click on that it takes me to my bio.  I hit inbox and nothing there.  People say they can't send them to me and I cant send them to other people. Sorry Julie, there was a typo in my first post it was supposed to say can't pm not got!

Ah - see that's why I didn't understand. Now-a-days I pop in and out so I didn't know the backstory. This got brought up in Kim's post to me with the whole knotclub and subsequent talk of the hatred of PM paging. I was just cuious cause a few people said they didn't like it.
