Picking a DJ

I'm debating between 2 DJs right now and I'm not sure which to pick.  One is $50 more than the other but they are basically giving me the same package.  How did you pick your DJ?

We're working on a strict budget so we knew we have about $1000 to pay with for a DJ. Our friend reccomended her DJ and after the rave reviews from her guest we met with him and loved his vibe. He's still up and coming and was right at our price range. It ended up working out great!!

PM me if you're interested in his information.

Our Dj is a very good friend of ours and his prices are awsome.

We didn't have many options since our DJ was included in our package. My DH spent a lot of time talking to a few DJ's, but we only met with one, and booked him on the spot. The other ones we spoke to were a little flighty, hard to get a hold of and didn't have the experience our DJ did.

The DJ we booked had positive feedback from here (and the Lansing board), and we liked him. He was a good communicator, and always returned phone calls and e-mails in a timely manor.

I found picking a DJ to be really hard.  A lot of them have similar prices, and to me, it was a harder thing to judge than vendors like photographers.  It was easy to look at lots of pictures, but hard to objectively measure a DJ.

At the end of the day, I went with a DJ with good reviews, and who seemed professional and friendly.

Picking a DJ is difficult because you can't actually see them in action before your event. If your stuck between the two I would look at their reviews and maybe call some of their references (if they have them) to get a first hand account of how they did.

The dj we booked was the dj at a couple of our friends weddings so we had a good idea of what he was like and knew he fit what we were looking for. But I talked to him for an hour before I decided. Asked him about what songs/style he likes, how he would handle requests and our "do not play" list, etc. Since you can't observe your dj before you book, the next best thing is to meet with him/her and talk about what you envision for your wedding. Check the vendor sticky. Maybe the djs you are considering have been reviewed. Also ask your reception venue what djs they recommend (they'll give you a first hand review)

We met with a few DJ companies, most of them gave you their information and sent you on your way, the one we picked, talked to us. Put the wedding vision in our heads. Brought us through the whole ceremony, "got" our music style and what was expected with no judgement! Plus! He looks like Kevin James AND they were voted best by wedding wire and wdiv!

We met with 2 different companies. With the first one the guy we met was the owner of the company, looked very professional, was rated well and would be the one at the wedding. The second company was a team of 18 DJ's and while they overall have a good reputation you don't find out who would be our DJ til the week of! Even though that one was $50 cheaper, we diecided that piece of mind was worth it to know what we were getting.

I haven't gotten that far yet, but I am going off of recommendations.  A lot of weddings that I have been to all used the same company.  I will probably go with them because they got everyone out on the dance floor and they weren't cheesy at all.  If it was a $50 difference, that wouldn't matter to me.  I would go off of the company, recommendations, and if I like the DJ.  I hate cheesy DJs.  Don't talk, don't sing, don't dance, just sit back there and play music.

Our DJ is awesome! She is female, but just as qualified and under $500. Very professional and she also gave us a bunch of awesome booklets of song ideas and other unique ideas for our wedding. Her name is Marlena and she is with Howling Wolf DJ. Check her out!
