Reception Dress?

Love it? Hate it? Anyone have one?

Mom wants to buy me a fun party dress for my reception. I love my dress and am hesitant, but think it would be fun to wear a short feathery dress for the last few hours to dance in.

I personally never understood the point of having 2 dresses. I wore one dress the entire day. It was heavy and I still danced my @ss off. I think it's a waste of money to get a second dress IMO.

I love my dress too much to change out of it.  Plus with the money that is being spent on it, I think my mom would kill me if I changed dresses.

I agree with Corinne. I had a hard enough time with the fact that I was paying so much for my dress and I only got to wear it for one day...I was going to wear it as long as I possibly could. I didn't even take it off right when we got back to the hotel! I sat in it and read all the mesages our guests left on our signature mat in it!

I had no trouble dancing my dress either!

I don't like them...definitely could spend that money on something else....but to each their own I guess.

It's a fun idea but seems like a waste of money to me. I'm going to wear something fun and flirty to the reception dinner :)

If your dress is altered properly, you shouldn't have an issue dancing. Talk to your seamstress if you are worried.

I think it's a fun idea too....but not for me.  I can see maybe if you're having a really long, drawn out ceremony and will be in your dress from morning to evening.  Changing to a reception dress then makes sense.

I love my dress and I can't imagine taking it off a minute before I have to. I'm not even considering a second dress.

I had two and I'm not ashamed to say so! My dresses combined cost less than the most inexpensive dress I tried on at a traditional salon ($700 for that one). Because of four knee surgeries, I had trouble with the weight of most traditional dresses, but I still wanted to feel like a bride, so I bought a "poufier" dress less than a month before my wedding for my ceremony and wore a very lightweight charmeuse dress (with straps so that I could dance) for my reception. I am having my reception dress cut down to a cocktail dress as we speak so that I can wear it again.

People shouldn't judge...I'm a killer bargain hunter and if you shop right, you can find incredible deals. But, if you love your dress, than stick with it. You can wear a fun dress to your rehearsal, don't forget!

I don't know that anyone was judging...just stating their opinion. Maybe you had a legitimate excuse, but others do it just to do it and it's not necessary to be honest.

I go back and forth. I definitely don't think it is a necessity by any means. My mom paid for my existing dress which was a third of what she intended to spend. I recently stood up in a friends wedding and she was lugging her dress around, needed help using the bathroom, and just seemed uncomfortable. My mom said "wouldn't you love to put on a little party dress at this point?" I am kind of torn because I do love my dress and want to wear it as long as possible, but it is still a fun idea. I definitely don't disagree that it could be money better spent!

I haven't bought my dress yet, but I am in love with one that has a detachable ball gown that reveals a super cute cocktail dress underneath when removed. I'm not sure I'll remove the ball gown skirt at the reception, but I figure I can actually wear the cocktail dress again!

If your dress is heavy or you think it might become uncomfortable for the whole evening, maybe you could get something flirty for the reception to put on after the traditional dances.

I know a lot of people don't see the point, and I personally will probably only be wearing one dress, but if you think it would make your night more enjoyable and your first dress wasn't expensive(and you have the funds to cover another dress), I don't see a problem with a change.

I don't know how your program is being set up, ie. is your dance going to be before or after dinner, but after your formal dances are over, it might be fun for everyone to see you walk in with something sassy on.
