Re: registry question

We registered 4 places, and deleted 1 so we have 3 registries but I can give feedback on 4.

Bed Bath and Beyond:  Really, who doesn't register here?  They have (almost) everthing you could want for your home, prices are reasonable, and returns are easy.  They are definitely the King of the registry world.

Sears:  We wanted to register for a grill, grill accessories and some other outdoor items.  So far so good.  We went to the one in Oakland Mall though, and I was not impressed by service.  Otherwise it has been a great registry so far.

Macy's:  We went to a sip and scan event and it was a good time.  We learned about product and ate good food.  We eventually deleted this registry because we had so few things on it.  Almost everything we registered for was something we could get elsewhere for cheaper.  We really loved a bedding set but it would've run us over $1,000 and was not worth it.

Kohl's:  We did not plan to register here and actually neither of us regularly shop here.  One day we were in there looking at something and I stumbled across some dishes that I love,so we decided to create a registry.  It is primarily every day dishes, serving pieces and a few miscellaneous kitchen gadgets.  We forgot our password which created a nightmare for us, and we ended up having to delete and re-create our registry.

Our must haves are: Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer, Luggage, Grill, matching serving pieces, and good cookware.

We have noticed that so far people have only shopped at BBB, so I actually removed some items from Kohl's and added them to BBB that way the people who go to Kohls are steered owards dishes and serving pieces.  I was also surprised that our first gifts wee our stand mixer and every piece of luggage.

There's still tons of BBB locations in the detroit area.  Actually, since Linens 'N Things closed a few years ago, BBB has really been thriving.

We registered at BB&B, Target and plan to go to JCPenny as well.

BB&B - I didn't particularly like the girl who assisted us at first but they were pretty thorough walking us through the store before hand and giving us tips on what and how much we should register for.  I will say this - somehow, FI and I ended up registering for 7 sets of sheets...  Apparently, all we really want is sheets!

Target - We did this in two parts at two stores but on the same day (we had lunch plans with our best man in between!).  The first store we went to, the lady at the desk was totally rude - the second store was much better.  They aren't thorough like BB&B - they make you fill out your info on a machine and then give you a gun and you go.  No direction at all.  On the otherhand, we were able to register for ANYTHING we wanted (for instance, FI registered for an iPad though we don't expect to get it.  We also registered for cleaning supplies and Monster Energy Drink so...  There's definitely a lot of variety (and opportunity for friends/family to get odd/fun/original and/or gag gifts).

JCP - we haven't been yet, but we will soon.  Plan is to register for a twin pull out chair I really want and luggage (probably a bit of other stuff as well).

I may be odd man out here but I do not plan to register at bbb. There are so many positive things about them as pp mentioned However, my issue with them is the quality of their towels and bedding is just not that great. That is why I am choosing Macys instead.

So we are doing macys and Create and Barrel.

We registered at BBB and Crate & Barrel.

We honestly don't have much on our C&B registry but I was unimpressed with the flatware and glass choices at BBB and love the ones we picked out at C&B.

We have had a really really good experience at BBB - we added a ton of stuff to our registry - almost every single item was purchased after our showers and so we used a lot of cash we got to purchase the remaining few items (technically an etiquette no no since our wedding hasn't happened yet, but whatevs - we know our family and they only give cash for the wedding).  Everything we've purchased (even additional items) they've added to our registry for easier returns down the line.  They gave us the 20% on items like our wusthof steak knives that are technically excluded.
** the only thing that sucks at BBB is that if you return something, you get store credit (no problem) on A RECEIPT! they do not put it back on a gift card ,so you have to carry around this stupid receipt with the amount of store credit on it.  it is a huge PITA.

We've only had to make one return at C&B and it went fine. The guy seemed annoyed that I didn't have my registry number (whatever, who carries that around!) and he didn't even end up deleting the item from our registry, but we did get the money back on a gift card and after all the hassle with that at BBB I was happy for the gift card.  C&B also has a much better selection (IMO) of quality open stock knives (but BBB has 20% off coupons). so we split up the knives and registered for a few at each place.

Must haves: kitchen aid mixer (we got one of these as a house warming present), goot cookware (Bff got us pampered chef stainless steel), a few non stick pieces, a griddle (we make breakfast every weekend), bakeware, etc.

    phew that was long, sorry.

We registered at BB&B and Kohl's.  Our must haves are our pots & pans, the Ninja Blender, our glasses, and our silverware.  I never even considered registering anywhere else, except for maybe Macy's, but after registering at the other 2 places, I decided to scratch Macy's.
Oh and if you go for Kohl's, make sure they link up the gun before you leave.  They weren't going to do it when we gave it to them.  I made them do it in front of me because I wanted to make sure the time I had just spent wasn't wasted.  Good thing I did, because they didn't know what they were doing and had to call someone else over.

we registered at Crate & Barrell and plan to also regiter at Macy's  and Target.  if macy's has all we need in the way of linens that will be all, otherwise we may add a few items at nieman's.

bed bath and beyond is college kid quality stuff...for your new married life you should step it up a notch!  you deserve it!

Really?  I completely disagree.  Maybe bedding wise (still don't agree with that, but to each their own) but BBB and Macy's essentially carry the same stuff kitchen wise. BBB has items in all price ranges, so I think that your generalization is a little ridiculous.

i find that macy's and crate and barrell is a little more expensive then BBB and Target. perhaps i may "deserve" better quality, but my guest don't deserve to have to pay for high priced items.
i also don't agree that BBB is college style/cheap material. i shop there, have bought many gifts there and find the store interesting.
i'm not going to subject my family and friends to buying expensive items from higher named stores simply because i may want them.
to be completely honest, i see everyone registering for kitchen aid mixtures and as much as i'd LOVE one... i find even a cheaper one at $200 is too expensive to ask for... :(

I felt the same way... at first.  Then I realized, it's a total wish list!  Your guests aren't required to give you ANYTHING!  So, make your wish list as big/strange as you want.  As long as you hit all price ranges (and continue to add lower priced items if need be) you're good to go.

We registered for things like a bag of chips and Monster Energy Drink (and by "we" I mean FI...   even a poor college student could afford if they choose to give us a gift) all the way up to a $200 set of sheets.  We're also planning to register for a pull out bed/chair & foot rest (I think the furniture together runs about $700)... not because we EXPECT someone to get it for us, but because we want it (and maybe a bunch of people will pitch in and buy it, or maybe we'll get gift cards to put towards it).

At the end of the day, your registry is a list of things you'd like in order to start your lives together.  It should be anything and everything you may want and/or need for your future together (we registered for cleaning supplies which FI told me wasn't fun - but Man!  Do I want a Swiffer Jet! lol).

Bottom line - as long as you hit all price ranges, feel free to register for a few higher priced things if you really want them!

BBB has everrrrything. Something we thought were cool were "bath sheets" which are oversized towels - Dan is 6' 6" and 280ish lbs so he appreciates having more than what seems like a hand towel to him, haha

I'm late to the game on this post We registered at BBB, Macys, and Crate. There are positives and negatives about each. BBB is always a mess, but the 20% off coupons are nice. Macys seemed expensive, but with all of their crazy sales every day, they wound up being cheaper than BBB. Crate is more $$ but their stuff is awesome and unique. To my surprise, almost everything off my Crate and Macys registries was purchased, but not much from BBB. Don't feel bad about putting certain items on your registry - just make sure the registry is balanced. Some people like to go in on gifts as a group.

We were unimpressed with BB&B. I think the quality has gone down on a lot of their products. My cousin had a awful time with Target so I stayed clear of them.

I only did Macy's since they have a wide range of products. They also have sales and additional percentage off products as well. It's nice to only have one registry but do what works for you.

I started registering online first then went to the store to check out products and added more and deleted stuff I didn't like in person.
