Urgh!

How do you get rid of Poison Ivy? There's a HUGE patch of it on the side of our house and up the trellis the prior homeowners left.

Oooh, I know this is actually pretty hard to do.

I googled it for you and this seems like the best reference: http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-Poison-Ivy-Plants.

    Good luck!

Thanks Jody. I will be buying roundup today lol.

BTW this sentence was very depressing: Do this for several years, because where there's poison ivy there's probably more you haven't seen yet.

OMG I read further down and this advice was hilarious: Goats are voracious consumers of poison oak and ivy. If you can gain access to one, hire one to remove your poison ivy naturally. Nurseries or the agricultural extension office can point you in the direction of goats for hire.

Screw chemicals - I'm gonna hire a goat!

You said you wanted a dog, right?  Goats are practically dogs.

I bet my neighbors would be soooo happy to see us bring our goat home. AND if we had a goat I wouldn't have to worry about weeding and I could make cheese!

Oohhhh Erin be careful cleaning up after working near it- follow the directions for sure (use mineral spirits or alcohol, THEN soap and water) the sticky crap that people are allergic to is super oily and water just moves it farther around on your skin- doesn't take it off.

(I'm practically deathly allergic to poison ivy. If it were in my yard I'd have to just hire someone to get rid of it grrr.)

Ok how strange would I sound calling places about hiring a goat. It just sounds like a joke.

I'm about to buy a concentrated thing of roundup and just let the beautiful chemicals work their magic. And then spend the remainder of my time searching the yard for more....grrr. Thankfully its just next to this bush that frankly can die too for all I care as long as the poison ivy is gone.

Hiring a goat is not at all weird. There are plenty of goat shepherds in SE Michigan! Let me know if you want some names in your area. You can only make cheese if it's afemale goat of course.

Round-up can be wiped onto plants as well as sprayed on. We do that often, as posion ivy pops up in flower beds at our house. (Birds spread the seeds.) Put the solution in a clean tin can, tie a small clean sponge or piece of rag to a stick so it's like a giant Q-tip, dip and paint. Poison ivy is having a grand old time right now because of last week's rain and the sudden hot weather.

Elkay - thanks for the offer but I'm assuming the city won't allow me a goat. I'm hoping the roundup I applied last night will help work!
