Post office VENT...I am about to snap!!!

I was talking with my mother today and she said that she had a couple of invitations sent back TODAY..(wedding invitations were sent out four and half weeks ago) The problem, not enough postage!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! I specifically went to my local post office to ask them how much it would be to send these out. They told me $0.81 anywhere in the continental US.  I bought the ring stamps and put two on each invitation. ($0.88)

What makes me even more angry, I sent out an email to everyone, asking if they got their invitation. One of my FI friends sent me a message back saying he had to pay $0.21. Now I know it's only a small amount, but come on!!! Is there NO consistency here!?!?! By the way the ones that have been sent back, and the one that had to pay...ALL IN MICHIGAN!! (Those that I know of anyway.)

What put the cherry on top of the cake.... My reply by date is in 2 and half weeks!!! What the h*ll is going on with the horrible government agency!! A bride five and half weeks out of her wedding does not need this!!!!

I filed an official complaint today with the USPS. Now I'm waiting to hear back from the Post Master at my local branch. I wonder what's going to happen to the traditional invitation when the Post Office goes belly up!?!?!

I'm out. Yell

x

That stinks! Glad to hear you are following up with the Post Office and voicing your complaints!

I think I'm going to send an invitation and RSVP to myself to make sure they come through okay.

Wow, that's not cool. It sounds like you did everything you were supposed to and it still got f'd up. I'd be mad too.

I sent my photog a deposit when i first booked, and it never got there... another mysterious USPS experience. Never turned up, check never cashed!

I had a lot of problems with the post office when I sent out my save the dates.  I had a number come back for various reasons, including but not limited to:  1) lack of postage (they all should have only cost 44 cents, but 2 came back); 2) Address does not exist (the people have lived there over 20 years, and the address DEFINITELY exists); 3) Person not listed at address (another one where the person has lived there for years); etc.  And the greatest?  A very large number of the STDs never made it to the intended recipient, and some were never sent back to me (I got one back last month, and I mailed them in November).

I was VERY nervous about sending my invites, because I worried that people wouldn't get them.  I didn't get a single invite back, however my RSVP date is this Thursday and I've yet to year from 43 invites.  Are they lazy?  Or did they never even get the invite?

I am so thankful that my invites arrived to everyone without incident. Its ridiculous how many horror stories there are about the post office.

I sent a test invite to my self and had my friend do the test RSVP postcard. Everything worked out fine. Geez..your invite postage is expensive! eeekkk..I am so sorry this is happening. My experience has been a hit and miss with the USPS during this whole wedding experience. I had issues with my STD's. So far, the invites have been just fine.

That's the thing I don't understand. Everyone got their STDs with no problems. And I have gotten more then half of my rsvps back. So I know most people are getting their invitations with no problems. This just doesn't make any sense to me!! Why are they picking and choosing what is enough postage and what isn't. GRRR!

Stupid post office! I had the same issues! One post office told me one price and another told me something different... then one told me they were too big to go through the mail! I just slapped postage on there and prayed they would all make it! So far 3 back -- 2 no reason I had the right address and postage -- 1 my fault wrong address. I hate seeing them come back!

I am glad you are following up with them and hopefully all gets taken care of!

Don't worry about venting........... we all have our own stories.

    I've had the following happen:

    - Mail delivered to the address 2 doors down (similar address), and I get theirs sometimes

    - Called the local postmaster when something I was waiting for was not delivered when the person sending it said it was coming

    - My son in DC got his birthday cards from my parents and myself AFTER his birthday, like a week later, when they were sent 4 days BEFORE his birthday. We sweated that out, because mine had cash, theirs had a check

    - My daughter's report card was returned by the post office to her school for reasons unknown. We've lived here for 15 years, and to my knowledge, received everything the school sent. The principal's office manager called her down to the office and gave her paperwork regarding the fact that the report card was returned, and used the word "FRAUD" when explaining to my daughter that if you don't live in the school district, you cannot go there! I wrote a nasty note back to that person, on the back of the paperwork they gave her and my daughter refused to take it because it embarrassed her. I had to attach 2 pieces of mail to show we lived here! Imagine that........told her it was FRAUD!

My favorite: they put a note in your mailbox telling you the rules about clearing the snow from your sidewalk & walk way.........then walk ACROSS YOUR SNOWY GRASS TO THE NEXT HOUSE to deliver their mail!!!!!!

My sister got married last August and all the invites made it out fine, but there are a couple RSVPs that are still lingering out there in the USPS black hole.  When she had to call after the RSVP deadline, about 5 people said they had mailed them back and my parents hadn't received them....and still haven't to this day.

Gosh so sorry to hear that all mine were delivered with no problem and about the post office going belly up? You would then get your mail delivered by someone who gets paid a meager wage and could care less about you mail ! They are not perfect I am very happy with my mail carrier thru rain sleet or snow thru gloom of night!!
