I don't think there is a specific day.  I went to the city clerk in Northville on a Thursday to get my marriage license certified -- waited maybe 10 minutes.  Went to SS in Detroit (7 and Inkster) on a Friday mid-day and waited about 20 minutes.  Went to SOS in Southfield (10 and Telegraph) on a Monday morning and waited about 10 minutes.

Certain offices are busier than others and there is no rhyme or reason.  Just leave time so that if there's a wait, you're OK.

    Good luck!

Ditto Julie. I went to SS (the one on Orchard Lake and 10 Mile) on a Monday and got there at 8:30 am. The place didn't open until 9, but there were already a ton of people waiting in line before me. Plus half the people didn't even understand what number was being called out because they didn't speak good English. I think I finally got out of there around 9:30 am Then I went the following week on a Wednesday to SOS because they're open late. I went to the one on Orchard Lake Road in Bloomfield Hills. I waited forever there. It really depends on the time of day you go. GL

Thank you for posting this, I just googled the address for this location and was worried this location didn't exist (due to comments from google maps).

I went to the SS office on Orchard Lake Road on a Friday afternoon and that part only took 20 minutes or so.

I went to the SOS office in Livonia late on a Wednesday night and was there for almost 90 minutes!!  The process itself takes less than 10 minutes but the wait was ridiculous.

I went to Soc Sec first (went on a Friday). Got there at 8:30 (they opened at 9). Was like 4th in line and was out by 9:20. Then I went right around the corner (Pontiac locations) to Sec of State and was there by 9:25 and was done by 9:45. I was shocked and thought it would take longer.

SS advised me to wait 24 hours before going to SOS so the records could be updated with my new name.  They said it doesn't usually take that long, but they wouldn't want me to wait in line only to find out it couldn't be done yet.  Just FYI.
