Reception Help...

Hey everyone...I am new here and just starting my wedding planning... Well I am stuck on the reception venue. I am planning on booking Gino's Surf (check is written out and going in the mail tomorrow). Everyone I have talked to at work etc...keeps telling me to wheel and deal...like to get an extra hour of bar time etc... I just dont know how to ask. I guess I am to shy to be so direct... any tips???

Thanks

Oh yes, wheel and deal at least a little bit.  You have nothing to loose - the worst thing is that they'll say no.  Was there a second venue you were considering?  If so I’d tell Gino’s that you’re having a hard time deciding between the two places and the package at the other place includes (linens, champagne toast, appetizers) and you’re hoping that they can match that package.  Or simply tell Gino’s that you really want to go with them but they are slightly more than you had budgeted.  Is there anything they can do to make it more valuable (add on bar time, etc) or cut the costs?

I did find it difficult to negotiate too and asked FI to do most of that for me.  I’m always too worried about being nice and FI is more willing to put what he wants out there.  I also found that I was emotionally tied to vendors (I really like her.  Or I REALLY want that venue).  Since FI wasn’t as attached to them, it was easier for him to negotiate.

I am so not a wheeler and dealer so no help here. I would say though that if you are happy with what you are getting why play games. Sorry I cannot be anymore help. Good Luck!

It's hard for me to negotiate too. I'd go with what msblumoo said...if you think it's a good deal then just go with it...or have your FI do it :)

Wilson, I can only tell  you that in today's economy you need to negotiate something "extra" for the cost. Not sure what the per person price is at Gino's, but if you tell them your "per person price" is say $5 less per person, you could see whether they "bite" on offering you anything. Not sure how popular that is for weddings, I know they have a big brunch buffet every Sunday, not sure about dinners, banquets, etc.

See if they will toss in something extra..........maybe an appetizer, or upgrade the bar, etc. Sorry I'm late to this, but I was out of town.

    Good luck.
