Wedding Dress

Is it wrong for me to buy a wedding dress on display? What are some advantages and disadvantages of buying a display dress?

I see nothing wrong with a display dress. Just be sure that if it is damaged and dirty, that you are able to get that taken care of.

Advantages - possibly could be cheaper and you don't have to wait months for it to come in :)

Disadvantages - may cost a little more to clean or fix if anything is wrong with it.

Ditto Brandi.  I'm all about saving money and generally rack dresses are cheaper than ordering new. Plus, like she said, you won't have to wait months for the dress to come in.

I would just pay close attention to any beading, lace, etc and make sure that there isn't any damage that can't be repaired or stains that cannot be removed.

Ditto PP - go over that dress in detail to ensure any lace/beadwork/etc hasn't been damaged. And also check over the zipper/buttons to make sure it hasn't been damaged by being tried on a bunch of times. Also check for makeup stains, deodorant/sweat marks, dirt along the hem, etc.

Finally the fit - if it fits you pretty well as is then you should be fine with any alterations. But if its going to require major alterations to fit you properly keep in mind this will eat into any savings and possibly even change the look/structure of the dress if there is detailing/beadwork that will be impacted.

But if it looks clean and undamaged I think its a great way to save a good sum of money on the dress.

My dress was a sample and everything on it was perfect (i.e. beading) except for a few minor pulls in the charmeuse. My mom knows materials pretty well since sewing is a huge hobby for her and she said that the seamstress would be able to pull it through, which she was. No damage to my dress and 80% off the previous price.

My advice: take someone with you who is detail-oriented to the extreme and preferably, who knows fabric types. My mom was a big help to me because I probably wouldn't have gotten the dress otherwise.
