Dress shopping question

Well I wasn't planning on buying a dress until another year since the wedding is so far out... but my sister is flying in from Japan (she works there) and this will be the only time I'll see her until my wedding. So I was thinking of maybe going dress shopping while she's here so she feels like she's involved in the wedding, even though she's so far away. I probably won't actually buy one, but at least I'll be able to see what looks good on me, or figure out what styles I like. My question is, does anyone have any recommendations on where to go look for a dress? I know there's David's bridal, but I was hoping for some other options as well. My budget for a dress is under $1000. II apologize if this is listed somewhere, I didn't see it. Thanks a lot! :)

Definintely check the sticky post at the top of the board. There's tons of ideas there. I, personally, bought my dress at Dior bridal in Dearborn and love them. I've had great consultants every time I've gone in and it's been a really pleasant experience for me. They have a good selection of dresses. I, too, went in with a $1000 budget and there was plenty within that price range to pick from.

Almost all of the dresses at I Do Too in Plymouth are under $1,000.

Got mine at Allesandras in Warren on Hoover just off of 12 mile! Had a great expereince and know others that did too!

I bought mine at The Wedding Shoppe just north of 11 mile on Woodward. I was shocked that their most expensive dress is $1800. All of their dresses fall between $800 and $1800 so I'm sure there will be something gorgeous for your price range...I paid $1200 for a dress that looks WAY more expensive than that :-) It's fun to look and get ideas so enjoy this time with your sis. If you like something the salon can always make a note of the style number, etc. for later.

I second Dior in Dearborn. I've had a great experience with them.

Definitely check out the sticky post at the top!

I purchased my dress from Dior Bridal, but I really didn't have that great of an experience with them. I'm actually glad I didn't go looking for a dress there. They happened to have a trunk show and I went there because I knew I would get 15% off my dress for ordering during the trunk show.

I would recommend going to I Do Too Bridal in Plymouth (even though not all dresses are under $1000 like pp said). I had an awesome experience there and would have loved to order through them but they weren't willing to give me a discount. Also check out Moni's Bridal in Farmington and B Ella Bridal in Ann Arbor. Have fun!

I second (or third) I Do Too. I didn't buy my dress there because I ended up getting mine at a sample sale, but I would have otherwise! They were all very nice and also very respectful of my under $1,000 budget!

I got my dress from Nancy's Bridal in Shelby Twp and they did a fantastic job. I feel like they are lacking a bit in the customer service department but she did an amazing job on the alterations and they are invluded int he price. Almost all the dresses are under $1000 - or maybe I just remember it that way because I didn't look at anything over $1000.

Group USA in Great Lakes Crossing Mall has a huge selection of dresses under $1000. I found mines there.

Gina's in Milford was the first place I went to look at dresses and where I ended up going back to order my dress from. I started there because she doesn't have an overwhelming selection, but she has enough that you can try on a lot of different styles and then have an idea of what you like before you go to the other stores that have 100's of dresses. Most of her dresses were under $1000 as well.

I'm probably the 5th person to vote for I Do Too! I bought my dress from them, and before I did I went in there a good half dozen times to try on! They are all so nice, and they totally remember people. Also the first time I was there I didn't know what time it was and we had been in there a while, and when I left I realized they had been closed for almost 40 minutes but kept bringing us dresses to try on and we had no idea!

Ditto this! It isn't your typical bridal shop as there are a lot of more homecoming/prom type dress in the majority of the store but you can't beat the prices! I got my dress during a sale for $400 when it was originally $700.

Same here! It was 20% off AND you can put it on layaway if you want. The dresses are VERY pretty and you can't beat the price. You can see some of their styles at www.groupusa.com

I'll give a 3rd thumbs up to Alessandra's Bridal on Hoover north of 12 Mile in Warren. I bought a dress there during a sample sale. If you buy at a sample sale they'll hold a dress up to 2 years in their warehouse for you, and you arrange for when you want it brought out & fitted. I think the original price was over $400 and I got it for $213.

The sample sale was in November.

    Here's their website. http://www.alessandrabride.com/

I also went to Gina's. I found dresses from $350 to $1500. She had some really different gowns to choose from. They also have great sale gowns (which my friend ended up getting). Good luck!!

I highly recommend Moni's in Farmington Hills. I bought my dress there--they actually still have dresses with sleevs, and also detachable trains. I couldn't find either of these things anywhere else (anywhere else being Warren/Sterling Heights/Troy etc.)
