Whose responsibility is it to pay for bridesmaids hair/makeup?

Question:
Never have been a bridesmaid before, so I always thought it was my responsibility to pay for my bridesmaids hair/makeup.
Then, it was brought to my attention by one of my bridesmaids that when "agreeing" to be a bridesmaid, it means you take responsibility for "dress, hair and make up" and that they should'nt have agreed to be a bridesmaid if they couldn't take care of this.


This is GREAT news for me! however, one of my other bridesmaids, im not so sure how she'll take it. She was in a weddings recently were she refused to get her hair/make up done because of the price.

What do you guy think? And how should I bring this up to my stubborn friend?

if she doesn't awnt to get her hair/makeup done, let her do it herself! problem solved.

If you are requiring them to get it done, then the bride pays.  If you offer to have it available but they can take it or leave it, the bridesmaids pay (although it would still be nice if the bride paid.)  For example, "Hey Susie!  I am going to have someone come and do my hair and make up before the wedding.  If you want yours done too it's X for hair and Y for makeup.  Or you can do it yourself, whichever you prefer."

Really the only thing they are required to pay for is the dress.

I agree with pp. Hair is one thing, but makeup is another. Most girls should expect to get their hair done, but makeup can be expensive. Are you requiring that they get their makeup done? IMO, I don't think that is necessary. I had a BM not want to pay $45 to get her hair done so she did it herself. It was fine and I wasn't about to pick a fight because she wasn't there. Sure it would have been nice if she could have participated in some of the getting ready pics, but you can't really control your BM's finances and if they can't pay for it, then so be it. It's just hair. Everything will turn out fine.

So, the point is, if you are requiring the girls to get their hair and makeup done, you have to pay for it.
