Poll - Shoes

Let me give you the back story:

From the very beginning I wanted to wear ballet flats for both my ceremony and reception. I've never been one for high heels. I always think they are painful.

While trying on my dress the other weekend and ordering all of my undergarments I was told that if I wore heels they wouldn't need to hem up my dress - saving me a significant amount of money since the dress has a lace overlay. So the debate - do I try to find heels that work, or do I just suck up the cost and wear the flats.

I'm not opposed to heels as long as I can find comfortable ones - is there such a thing???

so what are you girls doing? Heels or Flats?

What color shoes do you want?   I had red heels from Target for my reception and they were super comfy!

I was thinking of just ivory to match my dress...

How high of a heel would you need to wear?  There's a huge difference between say a 1" heel and a 4" heel.

trust me, I feel the same way! lol comfortable heels do not exist. I should've said "more comfy heels"

And I would probably need about a 3 in heel - pretty high. If I wasn't on such a tight budget I would've just hemmed the dress up, but now i'm reconsidering....

Depending on how much the alterations are, I would splurge and do the alterations.  If you aren't used to wearing a heel, that is a high heel to be wearing on your wedding day.  The last thing you want to be is uncomfortable.  You are going to be standing, walking, dancing, for 6+ hours which is a LONG time to be wearing heels (even comfortable ones at that...)

But if you want to go the shoe route, try sites like zappos.com where buyers can rate the comfortableness of the shoes.  That way you know you are getting a good product.

I went with heels because they make me feel sexy and beautiful. But, I would do whatever you really want. You don't want to look back on your day and think that you should have sucked up the $100 to get the hem if you have always had your heart set on flats. I guess it depends on how attached you are to the idea of not wearing heels.

Another thing to consider is how big of a heel you will need. If the dress will need a 1" heel for no hem, not a problem. If it needs a 4" heel and you are used to flats you will be in pain and maybe have a hard time walking.

I wear heels constantly, so my feet are dead and heels are comfortable up to about 8 hours. But if I were you,  I'd pay for the alterations and wear flats.

I bought a pair of 4 inch heels for a Homecoming dress my freshman year of high school from Aldo. They were leather and the most frickin comfortable pair of shoes I had ever worn, high heel or not. I wore them until they fell apart-- about four months ago ( so they lasted more than 8 years) -- EVERYWHERE with anything, weddings, under jeans, with a skirt, the bar, holidays. They were soooo comfortable. They also stand behind their shoes-- so maybe if you decide to go with the heel check there? There is an outlet for Aldo at Great Lakes Crossing too which will probably be even cheaper. And I would definitely wear any pair of shoes around the house a few times to get used to them. Good luck!!!

There is a such thing as comfortable heels, hard to find maybe but it can work,I have huge feet (size 12 )and I have found the "cloudwalkers" brand and very comfortable you can get them at a store called Avenue, you can check with the website, depending on how much time you have they always have new styles.I just looked and they dont have any wedding type shoes, but you can always keep a look out and something might pop up.I think there sizes may start at a 7 or 8.
Also I have found Nordstrom has comfy heels  if you get the right brand, because I stand on my feet for work and am always looking for a cute dress shoe,i do like to try there.
GL Do what make you most comfortable though.I would try to find a comfy heel before I did a hem,but thats just me.
You could always buy a wedge flip flop or something for the reception?

Ooo I like the idea of a wedge flip flop for the reception.

Anyway, I think i'm going to try for heels. Thanks for the suggestions on where to find comfy ones :)

I've worn heels a lot, I just never seem to find ones that I can stand for more than 4-5 hours before taking them off (usually at my desk lol) . I still have time to look and try them on, so I'll first try that!

How about a wedge heel, that would be comfy. I used wedge flip flops for my reception and It felt like I had nothing on. BTW I didn't have to get my dress hemmed either

I wore a 1.5 inch wedge heel as we were on the golf course, and they were extremely comfortable.  I was actually able to wear them the entire day!  If you want to go with a heel to save money on dress alterations, I would definitely look into a wedge heel.  They are way more comfortable than regular heels (in my opinion).  HTH!

Since it sounds like you're leaning towards heels, I am going to offer this advice.  When you buy a pair, wear them as much as possible beforehand.  Even if its just around you're house.  When you're cooking, cleaning, etc. around the house, wear them!!!  You will feel super silly, but you'll break them in and if they aren't comfortable, you can make plans accordingly.
