Loft venue, wood floors in SE Michigan.

I've been searching for months online (planning from out of state) for a loft style venue in the Detroit - Plymouth - Ann Arbor area and have come up empy handed. I've expanded the search to resturant (we're willing to rent out the whole space since we'll have around 150 people) but can't find anywhere we like that'll cater to more than 100 (places such as, Angelina's in Detroit, The Black Pearl in Ann Arbor, The Wine Loft in Birmingham.)

Just really don't like the carpeted hall, banquet room look and that's all I seem to find. Any suggestions?

  • I feel you on the finding somewhere you like that isn't the traditional banquet room look.

If you haven't already looked at these spaces, here are my suggestions!

In Detroit, check out Flat 151 and the Ford Piquette Plant. The former is an urban loft space that you'll have to bring everything into and the latter is more an industrial loft type space, original to its roots as a factory.

In Ann Arbor, check out the Ann Arbor Art Center. To me, it has a loft feeling with its hardwood floors and white walls. In the Ann Arbor area, the River Gallery in Chelsea may also work for you.

I thought of those spaces immediately for your needs. I'll see if I can think of any others Smile
  • The PPs suggestion of Flat 151 and the Piquette Plant are good. I'm getting married at the Detroit Yacht Club in their ballroom. It's not a "loft-look", but it does have vaulted ceilings and hardwood floors, so it's not quite the usual hall look.

Another thought might be the Detroit's Guardian Building Lobby. Definitely not lofty, but certainly unique.

  • I would suggest checking out The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac if you haven't already.... They are a serious contender for my fiance and I. They are pretty reasonable in price and every review I've read from a bride was great!!

  • The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) is another great contemporary space with white walls and concrete floors that may work for your needs.
