Infinity & Ovation help!

FI and I are getting married on the Ovation next year but cannot find any decent hotels within a 30 mile radius. The Ovation offers a complimentary shuttle for guests staying at the Ren Cen so we spent a night there to check it out and were not impressed. We also considered the Book Cadillac but it is pretty pricey. Has anyone else had their wedding on either of the yachts and if so where did your guests stay?!?

Re: Infinity & Ovation help!

  • I stayed at the RenCen at the beginning of the month and while the room we stayed in wasn't too spectacular we found that the service was amazing. They were very helpful and prompt and gave us no problems about delivering extra things to our room. We even pre ordered breakfast room service for the day we were checking out and it was exactly what we ordered and on time. there is a hotel right across the street which is pretty nice. Also parking was pretty reasonable! Good luck!

  • Hey I am having my wedding on the Infinity this Oct. I contacted the RenCen and no one got back to me and I have been there before and not been impressed. Right now the top 3 I am consider are the Hilton Garden Inn, the Atheneum and Greektown. There really are no decent hotels around the marina so downtown is really your best shot. Good luck!

  • You could stay at the MGM Grand Casino. I have heard that it is nice.

  • I have stayed at the Atheneum, most of the rooms (if not all, not sure), are suites and I loved the rooms. I've also stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, also nice.

There is also a Courtyard Marriott hotel attached to the Millender Center.  We stayed there several years ago on the night of the fireworks. At that time it was ok. The Millender Center has a walkway over to the Ren Cen, where maybe your guests could get the shuttle?

Link here to their info: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/dtwdc-courtyard-detroit-downtown/

When trying to decide on any hotel when we are traveling, I often use www.tripadvisor.com. The Courtyard by Marriott is  ranked #7 of 36 hotels in Detroit. Most of the reviews are good, and average out to 4 of 5 stars.
  • The Book Cadillac really isn't too bad of a price, we're getting the rooms for $132 a night for blocking off 10 rooms (note: the rate will only be good if AT LEAST 10 rooms get reserved)...not to mention it is a REALLY nice hotel!

  • Thanks for the advice everyone! That is especially good to know about the Book Cadillac 135 is not bad at all! I am going to revisit that option and also check out a Marriott Courtyard in Warren that will definitely not be as nice as the Book Cadillac but has good reviews on Trip Advisor.
  • There is also a Doubletree Suites hotel in Downtown Detroit that a lot of people don't think about or realize it's there.  I have stayed there and it is very nice.  It is on Lafayette right across the street from WDIV Channel 4 studios, not far from Cobo.

  • The Westin Book Cadillac gave us a rate of $139 - which isn't too bad considering it's a far superior property to the Marriot or the Hilton Garden Inn.  Call Sharonda over there and see what she can do for you. Maybe the price could go down if you guarantee a certain number of rooms.

Our rehearsal dinner is on the Infinity and we're directing people to the Book and MGM ($178)
     - so it's their choice.

    Hope this helps!

Okay so we went downtown today and checked out the Antheneum, Double Tree, Garden Inn, and Book Cadillac.  We were able to get a tour and look at rooms at all of the hotels except for the Book Cadillac, which apparently requires that you arrange a meeting with their Sales Manager first.  We really liked the Antheneum... the staff was extremely friendly and the location was nice.  However, upon further investigation on Yelp & Trip Advisor, it has some pretty mixed reviews.  Mainly everyone complains about it being super noisy and that the rooms have paper thin walls.  Has anyone heard of or experienced this before?
