Cups, bra, or other??

What are ladies planning, or what did you do, for a bra or cups with your wedding dress?  My seamstress said something about bringing in an old bra and she can cut the straps off and sew that in... that seemed weird to me.  So now I am just confused.

I had cups sewn into mine and it seemed to work really well at my final fitting. I'm a D cup and it was plenty of support, but my dress is also very form fitting, thick and sturdy, so that helps too.  I think it depends on your size and the type of dress.  What is your dress material like?  Do you need a lot or a little support?

I'll probably just wear a regular strapless. I just read on another board that sewing cups in isn't really that helpful, that it just gives the dress shape, which is contrary to what I have been told before.  Sewing in an old bra does seem strange, though.

My dress has cups built in, which is helpful because everything I tried did not work with it (it has a cowl neckline in the front and is backless). I'm a B, so it's not an issue for me. I am wearing those petal "protectors" just in case a strap slips.

I am a "C" and I had bra cups sewn in. It worked perfectly. Just enough support and padding.

I am a B cup and had cups sewn in and it worked out great for me.  Like pp mentioned my dress had a lot of support built into it already.  I also had a wide (maybe three or four inches wide) piece of elastic sewn into my dress to make the whole thing feel a little more snug on me – an extra measure to make sure I wasn’t tugging on it all night long.  She essentially attached this elastic to the side seams and then had a bra clasp in the back.  (I’ve bought formal dresses from JCrew that had this.)  While that elastic band was similar to a bra strap, sewing in a bra seems very odd to me.  It doesn’t seem like it would be any more supportive than cups since the shoulder straps would be cut off.

I'm a D cup and when I tried my dress on last month, I didn't wear anything underneath it. I probably could get away with that because the top of the dress sturdy and she said if it fits right it will be fine. But, I might have cups sewn in just to be on the safe side (and feel a little more comfortable).

The only benefit I can see from the bra vs. cups is the bra probably has underwire which will offer you more support. But depending on your dress/body it may not be necessary.

I had cups sewn in which made me feel more comfortable because even a strapless bra would've shown on the back and sides since my dress had a very deep v in the back.

My dress was a halter top, and I purposely had the neckline raised so I could wear a regular bra with it.  I knew I'd be more comfortable wearing a real bra, plus my seamstress suggested I get a padded bra so I would fill out my dress a little better, lol.  So I got one of those very sexy convertible bras from Victoria's Secret which can be worn halter-style and comes with a low back strap.  Worked perfectly!

I'm going with a long line bra.  I have a strapless dress and I  want something that will tuck everything in around my tummy and push the girls up nicely ;)

What kind of bras can be worn with a lace-up back dress? I guess I could go without one but I don't like not wearing a bra... I feel..well, naked! lol

I also had cups sewn in.  I'm only an A cup, and I think my dress lays better and looks nicer....plus, I don't have extra fabric in the top and I won't spend the whole night yanking up a strapless bra!  I have never heard of sewing an old bra in though...
