Tell us Tuesday

What is something you pay someone else to do, (ie manicure, lawn care, landscaping, snow removal, hair coloring) that you could do yourself, but it's just easier to pay and have it done "better"?

Do you or your fiance/husband argue about this expense?

What is something you'd LIKE to pay to have done but haven't arranged it, or just can't convince yourself it's worth the money?

You can respond regarding WR or NWR, or both.

Something I pay to have done: Manicure & Pedicure for sure!!! H also gets them with me so it's nothing that he can complain about!

Something I would like to pay to have done: getting my car detailed & getting my hair colored/cut. I color my own hair & for the most part cut it myself (unless my mom comes to visit me, then she'll do it) - I can't play the "lets find a hair stylist" game down here bc it's so darn expensive! I've spent about $500 already trying to find someone who can cut my hair & they have ALL failed!

No lawn care, landscaping or snow removal (though I do shovel our walk-way in the winter). Our apartment maintenance handles all of that.

    NWR:
I would love to get manicures but, my side job doesn't allow my nails to stay pretty for long.

    WR:
Make-up artist. I know it would be easier to hire someone to do my makeup on the big day but I just can't justify the expense.

Something I pay to have done:  I pay to have my hair cut and highlighted.  My FI thinks that what I pay is outrageous, but he's never asked that I go somewhere else or stop.

Something I'd like to pay to have done:  LANDSCAPING!!!  We bought our house last summer, and spent the time working on the inside, so now our project is to get the outside done.  A few weeks ago we expanded a garden in the back so I could have a large area to plant veggies/herbs/fruit.  We figured it'd be a day job --- it ended up taking ALL weekend (Friday - Sunday).  When we were done we were sore for 3 days.  On our list we still have:  pulling out bushes, planting the gardens, installing french drains in the backyard (it floods SO bad), and putting in a garden complete with brick pavers in the back.  I SOOO want to hire someone to do the rest (execept the planting, I want to do that).

Do you or your fiance/husband argue about this expense? FI understands that they do a much better job than we could and for $150 a year, he can't really complain.

What is something you'd LIKE to pay to have done but haven't arranged it, or just can't convince yourself it's worth the money? I've always wanted to try a bikini wax. With the wedding coming up, I may justify it!

What is something you pay someone else to do, (ie manicure, lawn care, landscaping, snow removal, hair coloring) that you could do yourself, but it's just easier to pay and have it done "better"? Oh definitely mani and pedi and my hair. I HATE doing my own hair!

Do you or your fiancé/husband argue about this expense?
Nope, we don’t argue about expenses at all.

What is something you'd LIKE to pay to have done but haven't arranged it, or just can't convince yourself it's worth the money?
Draping from the ceiling at our reception. I REALLY REALLY want it, but I’d rather spend that money on our honeymoon.

What is something you pay someone else to do: lawn care & maintenance, plus snow removal. I pay about $600 a year for lawn cutting & edging, and Scott's Lawncare service, but it's the BEST investment I ever made. I have no weeds (knock on wood), and my lawn always looks nice. I have a fairly large front yard, and a pretty big back yard, and it is SO worth it to not have to do this.

The snow removal is based on # of times they come, and # of inches they are plowing. Again, saves my health because it really pays off when we have tons of snow.

Do you or your fiance/husband argue about this expense? My fiance & I were just walking in the back yard this weekend, and he said how nice it looks. He "says" when he's living here he will do the lawn cutting. I told him in no uncertain terms this is something I don't mind paying for, because edging is a pain for everyone, and he will have more time to spend with me if we pay someone else Smile

What is something you'd LIKE to pay to have done but haven't arranged it, or just can't convince yourself it's worth the money? It's not that I don't pay for it, but I don't go to the hair salon as often as I should. I'm growing my hair out so I can wear a french twist for the wedding, but it really needs a trim. I also do my own roots (when they are not RED FOREVER FROM A "TEMPORARY" HAIR COLOR), and don't get highlights and lowlights as often as I'd like.

WR: I really want a "day of" coordinator, and will probably do it. It's so far away, I can't see worrying about it now.

I refuse to pay for anything that I can do myself. I do my own nails and hair.

Do you or your fiance/husband argue about this expense?

We don't argue about money, Austin is very frugal and that's one of the things that I love about him. I on the other hand will spend money like it grows on tree.

What is something you'd LIKE to pay to have done but haven't arranged it, or just can't convince yourself it's worth the money?

Our grass needs to be redone. Austin thinks that he can fix it, but I think we should hire a professional landscape company. Still trying to convince him that he sucks at it. He's been trying to get our grass to grow for the last 2 years without success.

We don't pay people to do much. Honestly all I can think of is oil changes and of course we don't argue about that. Actually he changes his own, I take mine in.

I would love to pay someone to do our landcaping. We have tons (like 15) of ugly bushes in out front yard and I hate them. I want them gone. I also wish we could pay someone to paint. I can never justify the cost when I'm good at it. It's just so annoying and time consuming.

    This is me!

    Mani/pedi and hair

Do you or your fiance/husband argue about this expense?
Doug is frugal and doesn't understand any expense that I pay out. But says if it makes me happy.

What is something you'd LIKE to pay to have done but haven't arranged it, or just can't convince yourself it's worth the money?

I think just about everyone already knows this answer, but pay to have my parent's house organized and clean inside and out.  I will feel so much better knowing that it is taken care of.

What is something you pay someone else to do: Haha we do anything and everything we can do ourselves at this point, aside from getting cars/major appliances fixed. We intend to keep our own yard and plow our own snow and I don't color my hair and I do my own nails. We'll see how that goes once we have kids and reach our 30s :P

Do you or your fiance/husband argue about this expense? Nope, we have very similar spending/saving habits. We hardly ever argue about finances; we try to be on the same team there.

What is something you'd LIKE to pay to have done but haven't arranged it, or just can't convince yourself it's worth the money? The closer I get to finishing my planning the more I want a DOC as well (lookin' at you, Sue). I have no idea how I can do everything without one.

I get my hair cut and highlighted at the salon.  I used to do my own highlights, but they never looked very good, and I decided now that I have a professional career, it's probably worth it to pay for good looking hair.  However, my hair stylist is pretty cheap ($55 for a wash, cut, and highlights) and I only go about 3 times a year, so it's a pretty affordable expense.

I also take my car in for oil changes.  I would really like to learn to do it myself.  I think I could save a lot of money, I just honestly don't know how and neither does FI. :(  Maybe someday...

Do you or your fiance/husband argue about this expense?

No.  Honestly, I'm the more frugal one of the two of us (although we're both pretty frugal).  I'm always getting on him about unnecessary expenses, like eating out, which he does at least a couple times a week.

What is something you'd LIKE to pay to have done but haven't arranged it, or just can't convince yourself it's worth the money?

I keep going back and forth about hiring someone to do my wedding day hair and make up.  On the one hand, I feel like I could probably do it myself, and it would save a lot of money.  On the other hand, I'm really not that great at doing my hair and make up and it would take a lot of stress off me to know I would look good on my special day.  So I'll probably end up doing it, I just haven't worked up the courage to commit to it yet.

]What is something you pay someone else to do, (ie manicure, lawn care, landscaping, snow removal, hair coloring) that you could do yourself, but it's just easier to pay and have it done "better"? nothing really - I would suck at cutting my own hair, I don't get manicures or dye my hair, we haven't got our house yet but outside work is FI's job lol. I can't think of anything else....
ETA - after seeing the responses I have one thing - I take in my car for oil changes in the winter because dammit its cold. I will do it myself in the summer.

Do you or your fiance/husband argue about this expense? nope.

What is something you'd LIKE to pay to have done but haven't arranged it, or just can't convince yourself it's worth the money? I'd LOVE to have a professional shopper take me out and dress me. I hate shopping and I feel like I buy the same boring clothes - I need someone to push me to explore new styles. Of course, I'd also need the money to spend on new clothes.  And it'd be awesome to have a personal stylist come do my hair every morning too. Basically I want to be rich and pampered.

Well, we pay to have our snow removed and lawn care but that's because we live in a condo. I pay to have my hair cut/colored about once every 3 months or so (sometimes more often). FI doesn't bug me about it. Yes, it's expensive but he buys video games, and I get my hair done...it all evens out.  I've colored my hair before on my own when I went dark, that was easy out of a box. But, now I'm back to highlights and lowlights and I don't trust myself to even attempt that on my own.

I would like to pay for someone to clean our condo once a week. We actually just had this conversation last night. Matt said "when we win that Powerball lottery, we should hire a housekeeper" I don't think he had gotten the period at the end of the sentence and I was like "ok!".  I hate cleaning! We try to keep up on it as much as possible but I still hate it...especially emptying the dishwasher. Hate it!

Kim - we just had this conversation too! I'd love to have a weekly cleaning service come do the 'big' tasks. Cleaning is not fun but I love a clean house.

    This exactly!

They tried to teach us in puppy class how to cut nails...no way. I'll pay to have it done. Our instructor had a mini-fit that some of us would pay someone else to do it. I would be too afraid to cut them too short. Nelly couldn't care less, but Seamus is pretty squirmy.

If we get this house (crossing fingers), I would definitely prefer to hire someone. My stepdad is really handy, and so is the hubby, but I'd rather have a company do it & make sure there is some sort of warranty on the work too!

I pay to get a manicure every 2 weeks (originally got my nails done for a trip to Vegas)...and Brian is the one who told me to keep getting them done.  He says they are pretty and feminine.

I would love to hire someone to clean.  Like Kim, I hate cleaning!!

NWR I pay to have my hair cut, my dogs hair cut, and my mani's and pedi'. Also to have my dog "mani and pedicured." (No polish just nails cut). I pay for facials, body treatments and massages. I get a massage once every two-three weeks.  I pay someone else to do my landscaping, I have a very small area in back of my condo, but it's over run by weeds. Landscaper coming next week!! Condo association takes care of snow removal.
WR. I even paid someone to help plan my wedding.

Do you or your fiance/husband argue about this expense?
Everything is always too expensive in his eyes, However most things I can get away with, but sometimes he'll say no to something.

What is something you'd LIKE to pay to have done but haven't arranged it, or just can't convince yourself it's worth the money?
I want a cleaning lady, but I haven't priced them out yet. FI hates to clean so I think he's all about that!

Right now nothing personal, car maintenance but I wouldn’t have a clue and FI doesn’t have the time.

Do you or your fiance/husband argue about this expense?
Since I don't have any, no

What is something you'd LIKE to pay to have done but haven't arranged it, or just can't convince yourself it's worth the money?

I'd do these in a heart beat fi would have a problem with spending the money.

Landscaper, getting my nails and hair done.  A cleaning lady , I don’t mind doing light house keeping but to have some really come and clean would be great.
