Wedding Night Accomodations?!?

So my May checklist says to secure my hotel for my wedding night. I'm just wondering which ones you ladies decided on?

I'm not really a fan of the old-school "luxury" hotels because it really isn't us. I DO however LOVE modern/hip/trendy hotels. I was looking at maybe securing a room at one of the casinos. The Motorcity has a pkg called the "Anniversary" pkg that includes one night, champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and a small cake (most likely for a wedding anniversary) Its all 180!

I thought that was a decent deal. What are you ladies doing and whats your opinion?

Thanks!
Danielle & Tyler

The hotel that we booked a block for the guests comes with a free room for us if we get a certain amount of rooms. So we are just going with that. They also reserved a private dining room so all the guests staying at the hotel can eat with us in the morning. :)

Well our room came with the reception site. Where is your reception site...is it not at a hotel???

That sounds like that might be a good option for you and your groom, but if you're going to use them also as a block for your guests, you might want to also include a cheaper option. (I'm sure the hotel probably has non-"Package" rooms for your guests that would be cheaper than the Anniv package you mention above, but they might still overall be a little pricey for all your guests.)

It really depends on where your reception is. I'm not sure if its downtown or if you just want to book a block of rooms down there. Usually, people book a block of rooms that is close to the reception hall. I can't see many people wanting to drive all the way downtown just to stay if they cannot easily drive to the reception. Also, you're not really in your room for that long so paying for a package like that almost doesn't seem worth it, IMO. Most hotels will do someting special for the bride and groom like give them a bottle of champagne. I've also seen where some of the BM sneak in to their room during the day and leave some chamagne in there for them.

I'm not sure why everyone's bring up room blocks since that wasn't mentioned at all in your post, but to answer your question, Motorcity looks nice, but I'd recommend looking into the Westin Book Cadillac too. They just renovated it in a modern style, so you might like that.

As far as whether or not the package is a good deal, compare it to the price of a room by itself, and then consider if strawberries, champagne (probably a cheaper brand), and a cake equal the difference in price. Hope that helps!

Danielle, it sounds as though you are looking for a room just for you and your hubby to be, not the out of town guests, is that correct? I found your info on the vendor poll, and your venue is in Pontiac.

I just did some online searches, and I'd say that the deal you can get at the Motor City Casino is probably the best. The other options would something at the Westin Book Cadillac, their packages here:

    http://deals.westin.com/Westin-Book-Cadillac-Detroit-Hotel-3001/index.htm

or the Atheneum Suites, which is in Greektown (I've stayed there, really nice and a bit more trendy than others

Also, if you stay downtown, keep in mind the other things that may be going on down there. If the Tigers make the playoffs, there may be playoff games at Comerica, also I just checked the Lions schedule, and they have a home game on Sunday, Oct 10. The Motor City Casino would be far enough away that it shouldn't interfere with anything going on in the Comerica/Ford Field area.

Most of the nicer hotels in Detroit are not "Trendy", but "luxurious", they have antique looking furniture, etc.

I don't know what we are going to do yet.

MGM Casino has AWESOME rooms! My neighbors had a penthouse suite booked & it was very trendy, awesome view, cool & hip furniture, flat screen in the bathroom. Very cool.

    Greektown has nice rooms too.

Do you really want to drive from Pontiac to Detroit at 1 or 2am just to sleep until 10 or 11am? I'd just book the Townsend in Birmingham.

Motorcity's hotel is reallyyy nice! we stayed there for my friends 21st birthday. & $180 is not a bad deal at all!! Were staying at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Wixom, they have a presidential/honeymoon suite with a jacuzzi in the middle of the room Wink for $130

I've stayed at almost all the Casinos downtown and MotorCity is my favorite! The rooms are simply amazing. Very big, great views. If you like hip, posh hotels definitely go that route. Thats a good deal and its well worth it. Its your wedding go all out girl! They also have the BEST restraunt called Irridescence it overlooks the whole city. And an amazing spa. Very cool :)

Ditto Mordacious I'm confused that you plan to drive from Pontiac to downtown Detroit that night?? You will probably be exhusted and ready to relax. I wouldn't want to drive 30-45 mins personally.

Is there a reason you want to stay downtown besides looking for a modern style hotel?

We just stayed at the hotel ~5 mins from the reception. It was a comfort inn lol. We just got the double bed standard room because we were only there for ~8 hours and were sleeping for a significant portion of that time.

But that's not a bad price for that package.

Personally, I wouldn't spend any extra on a room for the wedding night.  I would save that money and do something special for the honeymoon.  You'll be getting to your room so late that you won't get to enjoy the extras.  Also, I definitely wouldn't want to drive that far after the reception.

We are just staying at the hotel block with our guests.

The hotel where we blocked rooms for guests, gave us the jacuzzi suite as a free upgrade.  We are paying the same discounted room rate that everyone else is.  Its like 4 miles from our reception hall-so it works out well.

I mentioned it because usually the bride and groom will stay where they have a block of rooms because the bride and groom can get a complementary room or an upgrade. It also doesn't make sense to drive from Pontiac to Detroit to stay in an expensive room that will only be enjoyed for less than 8 hours. I would recommend saving your money and just staying at a chain hotel or somewhere close. You don't want to have to worry about getting a ride downtown.

We're staying at the bridal suite in the Royal Park Hotel, very nice, big room, good deal, about $700 a night

    Staryand - you're staying in a $700 a NIGHT room?! I really hope that was a typo.

Well to answer some of the questions :)

    1. I don't believe we're reserving a block of rooms. It is still in discussion but pretty much everyone lives in the area and anyone that is coming from out of town is staying with my FMIL (including us).

    2. We have to fly out of Detroit Metro on the day after our wedding. I guess staying a night downtown is technically closer to the airport than the Pontiac area.

    3. I thought staying at one of the casinos would be cool. They also have a spa package that I figured maybe we could take advantage of the next day before we leave back to LAX.

Just my thoughts. I also figured I'd be getting a ride to Detroit because we technically won't have a car while we're in town unless we rent one. I guess there's a little more to look into still :P

    Thanks for the help ladies

Just my 2 cents...  I would recommend reserving a block of rooms.  It doesn't cost anything and it's a nice way to get your guests a discounted rate should they need a place to stay.  I've been surprised by a few people who have expressed interest in staying at the hotel -- people that are somewhat local but don't want to have to worry about driving that night.
