Am I the only one?

So here I am at just under the one year mark until our wedding! I don't know what it is but I have some sort of mental road block when it comes to going dress shopping.  I don't know what it is but I am kind of scared!  I just keep putting it off. I am scared a little cause I am a plus size and I am afraid there will be nothing for me to try on!  Anyone else been a little scared to get started?  How long did you wait to go?  Any words of advice???

I'm plus size and there was definitely a bit of hesitation for me as well. But, there's quite a bit to choose from out there, so don't worry about it. I had some of the best luck at Moni's Bridal in Farmington and B Ella in Ann Arbor. The store where I found my dress at (I Do Too Bridal in Plymouth) didn't have that big of a selection of plus size dresses and I was getting frustrated because nothing was worth me even walking out of the dressing room in.

My advice is this: go shopping with an open mind. Even girls that are not plus size get anxiety about dress shopping. You have to be comfortable with your body. Try on every style just to see how the styles fit you. Even if it doesn't look good on the hanger, try it on. I walked past my dress and when the girl brought it in for me to try on, I was very hesitant to put it on. Dress shopping was by far one of the funnest parts of wedding planning. Go and have fun and most of all, relax!

I can guarantee you that you're not the only one :)

I was very apprehensive about dress shopping as well. I was super excited, but at the same time I was so nervous because I, too, am 'plus size'. I was so worried that I wasn't going to be able to find dresses to try on and that it was going to be a miserable shopping experience. But, it was just the opposite! I had a lot of tun. It was VERY exhausting, but it was enjoyable.  Yes, most dresses were typical 'sample' size dresses (8-12) and many of them didn't "fit" me properly but I was able to get a good idea of how the dress might look on me anyway. I found that the corset style dresses were the most forgiving in terms of not being the right size but still giving a pretty accurate representation of what the dress would look like in the correct size.  The dress that I tried on was a size 8. And I fell in love with it (even though it was all wacked out in the back because it was wayyyy too small). I had to order the dress in a 16 and it just came in last week. I tried it on and fell in love all over again! It fits perfectly (well, for the most part) and I love it.

Don't let the size thing get you down. I speak from experience. It's really not that bad. You can call around to different salons and ask if they have dresses in plus sizes, or just various sizes for you to try. I got my dress from Dior in Dearborn and they had a lot of different sizes (most were in the 8-12 range, but they did have a decent selection in some larger sizes as well).

ETA: My wedding is in October, I shopped in early December and ordered at the beginning of February. My dress came in last week.
    Good luck!! :)

I was also very apprehensive about dress shoping because I am plus size and really not all that much of a dress person.  I do not choose to wear them regularly on my own.  I first went to David's Bridal because they had a huge selection of different sizes and I didn't even know where to start in terms of bridal gown sizes.  Then I went to a few other places that didn't have bigger than sample size and I was so upset by the end of the day.  I tried again after researching who had bigger dresses and had a great time.  I went to Moni's in Farmington and Elegant Impressions in Clinton Twp and both had a fairly good selection.  I then went to the salon I trusted to do alterations and ordered it there.
