Asking friends to be my bridesmaids

I am interested in getting ideas on unique ideas for asking my girlfriends if they would like to be my bridesmaids. Something fairly easy but cute and memorable.

Thanks in advance for suggestions!

Re: Asking friends to be my bridesmaids

  • I went on Etsy and ordered little personalized mirrors (compact mirrors) in their favorite color, then I wrote a little poem in a blank card asking them to be my bridesmaids.

  • I ordered "will you be my bridesmaid" cards from etsy. I have had them for a little over a month and am handing my first one out tomorrow! I am so excited, I really wanted to ask all of mine in person, so I am just doing it as I see them. These are the exact ones I ordered:

  • I had champagne glasses made with a monogram of my and the Fi's initials and a little wedding picture printed on the glass. I bought 15 (11 bridesmaids, two mothers). I wrapped them and gave them the glasses with a cute card and a note telling them how much they mean to me and that I would like them to use the glass to celebrate with me on the day of my wedding. It cost like $150 but they actually sent me 18 glasses by accident.
  • I made "Will you be my Bridesmaid cards".  I've only asked three girls so far, but I want to do it in person, so it's been hard to coordinate the time to see them all.  But the ones I've handed out so far were a hit!

  • I made a "Will You Be My Bridesmaid?" box for each of my girls, inspired by this blog post. Using painter's tape and spray paint, I created designs on the box tops (chevron, checkerboard, and starburst) and I wrote in gold paint pen on the lid interior, "Be My Bridesmaid?"

In Word, I created several documents. One outlined my bridesmaid expectations: for them to have fun, and feel comfortable and beautiful. It also described what I was thinking at that point for their attire (dresses, shoes, hair, etc). Another card announced the wedding date and location. Another card listed who we were inviting to be a part of our wedding party. II also included inspiration photos of dress styles and our various wedding elements. I printed all of these on cardstock and cut them down to size with scalloped scissors. I also included paint chips from Home Depot for our wedding colors.

I gave the boxes to them when we met for dinner at Grape Expectations in downtown Plymouth.

I did a modified version of this for my niece, who I asked to be my junior bridesmaid. Instead of the box, I sent her a card with all of the same information I had given the bridesmaids and included pics of potential dresses for her.

The boxes were well received by my girls and it was a fun, unique way to ask them.
  • I made each girl a personalized purse sized calendar - like 5 x 3.  Then i had them bound.  It was a lot of time and effort ... but it was fun to do something special for them.  Then I took each one to a nice dinner one on one and asked them to be my bridesmaid.  The calendar has been really helpful throughout my engagement - they have lots of appointments and parties, etc.  Also - in the back I made a little bio with a pic of each girl and why I asked them to stand up - this included their contact info so I didn't have to be the go-to between them all the time.  A lot of my girls didn't know one another so it was nice to put their pic in there so that when they did run into each other at wedding parties/functions it's like they already knew each other.

They all seemed to really like these and actually just told me they'll be lost without them once the wedding is over haha.

  • Hey lady! For my girls, I used a poem I found online. I asked each one individually and took them to dinner or out for something, I can't quite remember the details. Also, my BFF asked me to be her MOH in February and she got these personalized cards from Etsy. They were super cute, but apparently not cheap. Definitely check out Etsy. I love that website and they have so many awesome ideas! Happy planning!
