When I was born, it was at a time when the parents didn't look and the birth certificate and make sure it was correct like they do now. This has caused me numerious problems over the years....
When I got my driver's license was the first problem. I was told that even tho there was a mistake, they said that my DL must be exactly as it was on the birth certificate. Because of that I decided to register my car in my 'legal' name as well as the car insurance. I didn't want to have any problems if I was pulled over by the police.
I was told that if I presented a corrected BC, then they would change my DL.
For the record, my 'correct' name appears on my social security card. I believe they asked me for my BC and I told them it was not correct and what my correct name was.
Fast forward to a few days ago. I found out that I have to have my name as it appears on my DL and that is how it will be on my marriage license/certificate. I asked if I brought my SS card in could they use that and they said no. When I asked if a government issued document trumped a state issued document I was told only if it was with photo ID.
So now I have to shell out $40 for two letters that were missing from my first and middle name - and it sure wasn't my fault!
FYI - the hospital is long gone.
I just hate the fact that "I" have to correct a mess that wasn't mine to begin with.....
