Honest Opinions Needed - Centerpieces

So I put together a mock up for my centerpieces this afternoon and I'm not sure about them.  This is one detail that I don't partiuclarly care that much about so I'm trying to do it as cheaply as possible.

But at the same time I don't want them looking awful either.  So please let me know what you think, suggestions and honest opinions are defintely appreciated (aka don't tell me you like them if you don't.)  TIA!

I think they're pretty! I'm thinking about replacing half of my flower centerpieces with some DIY ones similar to these in order to save money.  Flowers weren't really the most important element to me either, and candles look beautiful once the lights are lowered at the reception!

Honestly, it looks like exactly what you said: you wanted to spend as little money as possible.

I tried the DIY centerpieces many different ways. (I set up a large table, etc.) When it came down to it, it always looked like i was skimping on something.

If you are willing to buy silk flowers I would grab your favorite flower and make it float in the water and put a floating candle on top. It might make it look a little more completed.

I think it's just a stereotype but in my family (and fi's) if you don't use flowers you're trying to skimp on the centerpieces.

I agree - for some reason, any centerpieces without flowers look cheap to me. Yours don't look bad, but I'm sure they look much better when it's dark and the candles are lit. Candles in daylight don't do a lot for me.

I don't think they look awful at all! I don't think that centerpieces need to have a flower component. If you're not into flowers, then don't do flowers. I think they look great just the way they are. One more addition might be to add some of those crystal gems around the mirror for a little more sparkle? I really think they look nice just the way they are though.

I love the idea of just candles for CP's. They're simple and will serve their purpose. Have you tested the center candle for burn time?

I would suggest putting a flower in the center bowl floating in water. It would be simple and elegent and cheaper then spending alot of money on a whole bunch of flowers. Just an idea to add more color to it.

What if instead of a pillar candle in the bowl, you put water and a floating candle in?  The water will reflect all the light in a cool way.

I really like the suggestion in the pp.  A floating candle would look nice!  I don't think they look too plain.

Are you doing white linens?  I feel line there is a lot of white there and it will look very plain.  Have you considered either green linens or adding more color to the centerpiece?  Maybe through colored votives or more of those green gems.

Also, they are very simple and if that's what you're going for, they are perfect.  Personally, I don't pay much attention to centerpieces and if you don't want to spend a lot of money on them, this is the perfect option.  However, you could also consider doing half or 2/3 of the table with these and the rest with flowers or something more extravagant.

I personally feel like there is either too many candles or something is missing. Like pp said maybe try a flower submerged in water instead of the pillar candle in the bowl.

If you want them to look simple & elegant, they do and you wouldn't need to change a thing. I peeked at your bio, and see that your colors are green and either grey or silver.

The only thing I'd change if it were me would be to add some green ivy (preferably live vs silk), and perhaps, if silver is your color, some silvery wire or filament intertwined with the ivy. You could put the green marbles (never sure what to call them) over/around the ivy to hold it down, and the silver mixed in with the ivy would pick up the light off the candles & add a bit of pop, while not being over the top.

You could also do the green ivy & silver filament/wire in & around the votives.

Similarly, you could do what some of the prior posters said & add water to the bowl, the ivy & silver wire/filament, keep the green marbles to hold the ivy down, and have a floating candle or two on top.

You don't have to have flowers per se, but something "live" like an ivy would make it look more natural & evoke a summer feel.

Or, if you're looking to add more color, you could replace the mirror with two pieces of scrapbook paper that coordinate with your colors.  It looks better than it sounds, lol.  We put two pieces of paper under each (set of) vases at mine, and I thought it looked great!  It added a lot of color.  [I'm personally not a huge mirror fan, but they look fine in yours!]

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about... it's really poor quality, but it's the only pic I could find that showed the centerpieces, even a little bit.  You'll probably have to click on it to make it bigger.

I think there fine but if your having white linens it looks a little washed out.  Too much white.  If your trying to go cheap you could take out the mirror.  Maybe put some of the green gems around the bowl for some more color.

Thank you for all the great ideas ladies!  LIke I said, the centerpieces aren't something I particularly care that much about but I didn't want them looking horrible (or horribly cheap!) either.

I will try a floating candle and trying rearranging it a little when I get home (take out some candles, add some candles, add some gems, remove the mirror, etc.) to see what I can come up with.

The linens will be white (provided by the venue) but we will have colored napkins to add some other color to the table.

    Thanks again!

as a couple of the PP said... i think the pillar may be a bit much. a floating flower in water would look beautiful i think! and maybe some of those green gems around the mirror and votives.

or instead of votives, try tealights, if you're stuck on the pillar idea.

i also really like Abbylynn's idea of the scrapbook paper. in her pic, the paper looked cute under the center peices.

    Good luck!
