Registry Vent

So on Sunday morning fi and I went to register.

We had a great time at Crate & Barrel. They were nice friendly and so helpful. I loved everything that we picked out.

We got done pretty quick so we thought we would head over to Macys and get a start on that registry. It was a painful process. We sat down with someone who took way over 30 minutes to explain the registry process to us and she used about 10 of those minutes to try to get us to sign up for a credit card. They she walked us around the entire store. Even after I repeatedly told her we wouldn't be registering for fine china, flatware, and dishes she continued to try to get me to by showing me options I should register for.

Finally after all this she let us go on our own. We decided to start in the bedding department. It was beyond frustrating. Nothing was labeled properly so you couldn't tell how much anything cost. Then I finally found a set I liked that was pictured on an advertisement board. I looked everywhere to find all the matching pieces. When I finally found some they didn't have all the sizes and everything was everywhere. I then asked a sales associate if she could help me find the king sizes. Which I was informed that they should be there just look harder.

Then onto small appliances were everything was mislabeled and when labeled correctly told nothing about the product. No one was eager to help us in this department either.

At this point I looked at fi and said okay I am done. He agreed and we went to turn in the scanner. The women who originally helped us was amazed at how quickly we came back. When I explained why we were so frustrated she asked if I had asked for help. I told her yes and explained how all the associated were unhelpful. She then reminded us again about the credit card.

I really love Macys but am so unhappy about this experience. I don't think at this point we will be finishing the registry there. I don't want to send my guest into a place that is disorganized and employees are unhelpful to purchase me a gift.

Re: Registry Vent

  • That sucks :( I'm sorry this wasn't a good experience. Hopefully this was just the result of them coming off the holidays and inventory. Macy's was okay for me (besides the constant "get out credit card!") but I just found out that it was awful for my guests - nothing was in the store and a lot of their online orders were messed up. I LOVED C&B and so did my guests.
  • Uh oh. FI and I are going to Macy's today to try and finish our registry...

We went a few weeks ago and didn't really know what to expect since it was our first place/time we were registering. It was okay. We both have Macy's cards so we didn't get badgered about that.  It's kinda hard to find things. But overall I think we had a better experience than you. Maybe you should try a different location. We're down in Cincinnati so we didn't go to the same store as you but perhaps that would help.

  • Sorry you had such a bad experience, DH and I did too.  We felt the same about their sales associates.  After we got home, we cancelled our registry....everything we wanted there we were able to find for less elsewhere anyway.

  • I don't shop at Macy's often, however, DH and I returned some gifts there and have a gift card. I couldn't agree more that things are really disorganized. I was really disappointed. Sorry you had such a difficult experience!

Sorry for the bad experience, and thank you for sharing.  We are supposed to go this week to start registering there and FI will not be pleased to sit through a sales pitch.  May have to reconsider Macy's as an option.
  • To me, Macy's is over rated and over priced.  Probably will do BBB and JC Penney.
  • Hmm here's an update. Went today and registered..went well and surprisingly we found china! Registered for it and then went online and saw that all of the sale prices at Macys is the exact same as the regular prices at BBB. We'll be moving some things over to that needless to say..

  • Whoa. I would have been ticked off! Thank you for posting though, definitely going to keep Macy's off of our registry list.

  • Wow crazy experience.  What if you tried registering online?  We did that through Macy's and I had a pretty good experience.  Nearly everyone who bought off of Macy's did so through their website and they did not have problems that I know of.

BBB will also walk you through the whole store...I found that immensily frustrating.  I ended up scanning a bunch of random things to make the sales guy happy, and then deleted things off of the online registry when I got home.  Way tooooo time consuming!

  • ZuluMay, I had the same experience at BBB. The woman helping me was incredibly nice but she kept checking up with me, took too much of my time in the beginning to explain the registry, and pursuading me to register for things I really didn't want or need. I told her over and over again that I already own many items and that I didn't want them upgraded, however she didn't listen. I also ended up scanning items to make her happy and then deleted them when I got home. It took so much longer than registering at Crate & Barrel, which was a much better experience.

I still like BBB for their selection, but they really need to leave the Bride alone after awhile.

  • Also make sure you check out Kohls, they are doing this promotion where for everything that is bought off your registry from Kohls you earn 10% of the sales I believe this will be put on a gift card, and you receive it shortly after your wedding.
