How do I change my name once I get married? Also, I want to use my maiden name as a second middle name but I have heard that Michigan does not recognize 2 middle names. Is that true? Having 2 middle names is fairly common so I don't understand.

I kept my last name and added my new married name but did not hyphenate. So, my maiden name is kind of like my second middle name now.  When you go to SOS, just put all 4 names on the form with no hyphens and they shouldn't have any trouble doing it. I haven't had any trouble with it and I can now go by either name legally.

I had a friend who attempted to make here maiden name a second middle name and they told her that had to hyphenate her middle name. And that's how it is on her license, taxes, etc.  It's weird.  Maybe that person just didn't know what they were doing??

Ditto PP.  I had a friend try to make her maiden name a second middle name and they wouldn't allow it.  She had to switch her middle name to her maiden name or hyphenate it.  She opted to change her middle name to her maiden name.

My FI was born in Texas and has two middle names but he moved to MI when he was like, 3 and when he was 16 and got his license they said they couldn't put two middle names on a license without hyphenating it. So, legally - he has two middle names on his birth certificate, but on everything that uses his license to identify him, he has a hyphen (i.e. when he opened up a bank account they hypenated it because it was on his license)

Crazy laws.. things like that should be the same in all the states and you should be allowed to have like, up to 3 or 4 middle names if you wanted.
