Travel Insurance?

Has anyone ever used travel insurance before? Will it refund the total cost in the event of a hurricane damaging the area or a hurricane headed for the area the week we are to depart?

Which company do you use?

Half the articles i've read say it's a waste...half say it's a definite.

We have never done it before, because our credit card works like insurance. ie. in the invent that anything should happen we would get our money back. (loss of luggage, hurricane, etc.) Check with your credit card company, they may cover it. But you have to book with that card.
But if you don't I think it's worth it. My luggage got destroyed on the way back from my spring break. They paid to replace it. I was glad I had it. But I will send you knottie vibes that everything goes just fine.
(PS. I have to give major snaps for Aruba. If you haven't planned your trip, it is out of the hurricane belt, and it is very safe there.)

I get travel insurance for every trip I ever take (I tend to have bad luck).  And I use Travelex.  I've never read for if it covers hurricanes b/c that's never something I've been concerned with, but it does cover trip cancellation and interruption.  Take a look at their site and see what their coverage terms are.

We used a travel agent for our honeymoon, and they offered it.  It was "cancel for any reason" insurance and was not a bad price at all.  I would highly recommend it!

Never used it - so far we've been lucky enough to not need it. Keep in mind most places will require you purchase it within a certain timeframe of booking the trip.

I bought it from CSA for a trip to Japan in 2005. I got sick on the trip and spent a whole day in emergency (about $900) and had to come home 4 days early.

Travel insurance did nothing for me. They gave me the run around for 3 months - never sending me the claim forms to get my reimbursement. It was a waste of $32. The airline was so accomodating and changed our flight without any fees. I'm sure - my feeble state something to do with it.

    So - I haven't purchased it since.
