Ceremony dilemma

We have a very small wedding party and no ushers.  I'm trying to figure out how to go about getting ceremony programs distributed and directing guests where to sit. FI has a very small family and will not have many people from his side of the family attending our wedding.  Since most of the guests will be from my huge family, I want someone to direct some them to sit on the "groom's side." I've heard of having "hostesses" at the front of the church who pass out programs and direct guests to be seated.  However, in the 2 weddings I've been to that have had this, it's been a teenage girl.  Since I don't have any non-surly teenage cousins, would it been in poor taste to ask some of my female friends who will be attending to be hostesses?  If it was you, and you were asked, would you be offended?

I think that would be perfectly fine. I would invite them to the rehearsal (so they know what you expect of them) and maybe get them a small gift as well (like $5 or something small and cute that lets them know you appreciate them doing so).

I think you can have whoever you want do this. I am having my older brother and his wife pass out programs. And I've seen many different people do this at different weddings.

Do whatever works best for you.

ditto the others. You can ask anyone, and I'm sure a few of your friends would be happy to help. Just make sure you thank them with a small gift for their efforts.

Or you could borrow my FI's nephew's! lol (FSIL is so hell bent on them being in our wedding party that I had to cmoe up with things for them to do just to keep the peace)

We had two older (mid-30's) female cousins, one from his side and one from mine, as "ushers".  They didn't have to wear any special attire or anything.  We invited them to the rehearsal and dinner, bought them corsages for the wedding, and had them walk our mom/grandma down the aisle to their seats at the beginning of the ceremony.  We also bought them each a gift at the rehearsal dinner (about $25 each).  They seemed very happy to be involved and we loved having them!

I'm sure your friends wouldn't mind helping out.  As pp's said, just make sure to include them at the rehearsal and buy them a small gift to thank them.
