confession: we go on a weekend get-a-way saturday and mentally im done working. anyone have suggestions on where to eat/go in chicago?

WR - We have been engaged since Dec. 23, 2010.  Which means I have been planning since Dec. 24, 2010.  I have asked my FI a ton of times to get in contact with his family about Ushers.  At this point we have two, one from my family, one from his.  We have invited 244 guests.  I am a little frustrated that this has taken so long.  I think I will just be happy with my 2 ushers and leave it at that.  It's not a big deal but annoying.  

NWR - I am dealing with a very difficult parent at work.  This is the only job that I have ever had where everybody thinks they know better then you.  If you are such a great educator then keep your child home and teach them yourselves!  Oh, yeah, that's right, you are an idiot and could not even teach your dog to sit.  It is so frustrating to deal with ignorant people!!  Ok, I feel better.  Off to another day in paradise.

<div>Love Chicago! I highly recommend Big and Littles. Its this tiny diner/dive that has great grill food. I saw it on Diners, Drive ins and Dives and HAD to go when I was in Chicago. </div><div>

Vent - So early issue of FI's cousin coming has changed again.  Now she is probably not coming.  She broke up with her boyfriend so according to the aunt, she changes her mind daily on whether or not she is coming.  FI's aunt said don't worry about seating, if she comes it'll work out.  *sigh*  His family table is full, so if she comes, she'll have to sit at another table.  FI and I are trying not to worry about it, cause there is really nothing we can do.  Not going to rearrange tables on the chance that she will come.

We've been engaged since 2/16/12. My family is excited but I'm getting a weird vibe from them. I asked my mother for a rough estimate guest list so that we could get a budget together. She told me that there really isn't anyone she wants to invite. She also made it clear that my parents weren't going to be contributing to the wedding.

My fiance keeps making jokes that the bride's family is supposed to pay for the wedding, but won't give me a budget, so I don't know if he is joking. He's Canadian, so only a few of hs relatives will probably make the sacrifice to come to the wedding. His mother died 20 years ago and his dad is almost 80.

Is it really the bride's responsibility to pay for everything? I'm feeling pretty worthless right now. When I was in high school, I was told that senior pictures and the prom were a waste of money too. They made me feel like a spoiled brat for even asking. A destination wedding is looking more and more appealing every day.

And don't get me started on immigration issues!

Vent: At first I thought it was really cute fi made a week of agenda for the wedding. Most of the groomsmen are all oot but are coming in Wednesday or Thursday before the wedding.

So on Thursday he had planned for them all to go to the baseball game during the day. Last we talked I thought he meant only the groomsman well than he told me on Monday that he wants everyone to go including me. When I informed him that two days before the wedding i'm gonna have way to much to do to go. I would love to spend all day in the sun drinking beer at the baseball field but there will be a million things to do. He just didn't get it.

Vent: This one made me so mad. They just announced the downtown hoedown is the same weekend as my wedding. Its also been moved to comerica park. So now hotel room prices are going up and there is no way we will get pictures in front of comerica park.

Sopraffina -- it's not the bride's family's responsibility. That's traditional, but these days is NOT always the case. More and more, brides & grooms are paying for their own wedding, or there are several people contributing (brides family, grooms family, bride & groom, etc.)

Please tell your FI to stop joking around. You guys should plan a wedding you can afford, without help from either side. This may mean a smaller guest list, but given your family circumstances (not many would travel to it), that may be the perfect idea. Also, don't ask your parents to help, if they offer great, but if they don't, they don't. And don't feel bad about wanting a nice wedding, even if your family is being weird about it. You can still have a great wedding on a small budget!

LOTON -- I am annoyed they moved Hoedown to Comerica Park, but only because that's my 'hood and now I can't avoid them like I could when they were in Hart Plaza. As for hotel prices, did you lock in a group rate for the hotel block? Is that what's changing? If so, I'd be PISSED.

Nooooooooo! That is horrible news! Hopefully people have booked rooms already. Also I hate country music, ugh.

Vent: I bought flats from Dessy for my reception. Marigold yellow, bow, super cute. I get an email a few days later saying "oh we've discontinued these. is there something else you'd like or do you want me to refund?". I looked and they had essentially the same shoe but in ivory. I figured that work fine..not as fun but hey it will look more bridal. I said sure but I asked them to give me a size 8 instead of the 7 I had ordered in the yellow (the yellow's apparently ran half a size too big so they say on the website to order the next size down--the ivory runs true to size).

So of course they come and sure enough, wrong size. My toes hang over.

I email them to see how to return them and it's a pain. They won't exchange so I'll need to send them back and then re-order. I'm REALLY annoyed.

Orange with a Peel is an AMAZING cute little breakfast place in Chicago. There are a few locations, they have a website. Get the French toast kabobs!!

Vent: I'm getting super frustrated that I'm exercising more and more and I seem to have hit a plateau with weight loss. If the scale would even budge a couple of ounces it would make me happy!

Confession: FI finally decided to declare bankruptcy and I'm actually THRILLED about it because he will be able to get rid of some really bad debt. I feel totally selfish for wanting him to do this just so that we can start our life together with a clean slate though (he's doing it for him, but I like to pretend he's doing it for me...)

Vent: not really happy that the dr's office guilted me into coming in for echo and doppler yesterday - they said that they had someone to come in to do the tests for them.

I also had to have a holter monitor for 24 hours.  The green lead has come off twice during the night/early morning and the brown lead looked iffy.  I called the office to see if I needed to come in and they said no....

Confession:  I'm having the worst wedding nightmares. And though I'm trying to keep the cool face on I'm very overwhelmed with things.

Vent: My f***ing job.  I know I've complained about this before but today is exceptionally bad.  My boss sets unrealistic deadlines, she does nothing for the drawing sets I do it all so maybe you would think IDK to check with me first before telling the client they can have their drawings by a certain date, her communication sucks, and for some reason she thinks I have this magic wand that completes everything quickly.  My construction sets are used for contractors to build from...I kinda need to take the appropriate time to complete them to code.

FI works at one of the Detoit hotel/casinos and he works his BUTT off for them and it doesn't look like they are going to give us any discounts for getting a block of rooms there for our guests.  I don't mind looking into other hotels, but I think it sucks on principle.  We even had to pick our wedding date for a date they wouldn't need him.  Ridiculous! That's my vent

Vent: I am feeling a bit sad. I am not someone that wanted to ask my bridal party immediately after getting engaged. To be honest, my issue was who I wanted to be my MOH, my good friend from childhood who I am still very close to but we have definitely drifted a little bit the past year, or my cousin who I know will always be in my life and has always been like a sister to me. I finally decided to go with my cousin, it will be a choice I will never regret, even if my friend is a little bit hurt. I havent had the chance to ask my cousin in person yet since we live about an hour apart and she travels all the time for her job. I called her the other day to set up a day when we can get together. SHe told me she was getting moved out of state for work. I am really, really sad. Im going to have to ask her on the phone and dont even know if she will want to be my MOH long distance, she might just want to be a bridesmaid.
