How much do you share

Just curious about everyone's experience because i have a friend who is engaged and is shopping around for dresses. She saw one she liked on another bride and sent her an email asking the designer.  The girl didn't want to share, which was odd to me, since there won't be any of the same people attending both weddings.

I suppose i see the fun in being the only one to have the dress, but if it were me I would totally tell.  How many of your wedding plans/ideas would you be willing to share after the fact?

I've told everyone anything they asked about with the exception of questions about cost.  I rarely give out the information of how much I paid for X or Y.

I'm all about sharing...especially if it can help someone save some cash or get their dream dress or whatever. I'm not stingy...well, sometimes I am but with this wedding planning stuff I'm all about helping people out.

A friend of mine had a gorgeous dress so I emailed her and asked her who the designer was. She told me the designer, the style name and number, where she got it and how much it cost. I actually tried it on and it didn't look nearly as good on me as it did on her. oh well. But I was happy she was willing to share the info with me.

That seems odd to me too.  If it's after the fact, and none of the same people are attending, I really can't understand why she would care.  I wouldn't!  I'm like you Melanie, I share just about everything with everyone except exact dollar amounts.  I guess to me, someone wanting to copy my wedding would be flattering!

I was thinking maybe it was not proper to share from all the unanswered questions tha tI was getting from asking brides questions until I asked a friend of min brob she shared everything and I am eternally grateful.

I was really down int eh dumps with not really being in the planning parts of a wedding before and I had some great ideas but could not work it all out. I talked to her via the web for a few hours and she got me back excited to plan my drea wedding. I dont really understand selfish people because no two weddings can be exactly alike. So thanks to everyone that shares and a very special shot out to Brandi :)

I don't see the point in keeping stuff to myself.  Even if I didn't want to say who the designer was, she could easily do her own research and find out.

I have gotten such wonderful ideas and vendor recs from other brides, I want to reciporcate.  If I can make someone else's planning easier by sharing my research, I'll definitely do it!

That being said, I usually don't post information about vendors I'm actively corresponding with until after it's been booked.  Because you just never know ;)

I can't keep a secret to save my life, so I am an open book. I don't talk finance either, though technically no one has asked me yet so that makes it easy to avoid.

I love my dress so much I am always showing pictures of it and asnwer any question I am asked, though I do see pp point about not talking until it's booked.

It's weird to me that the girl is so tight lipped, but I guess it takes all kinds, huh?

Every bride will be different. After havng two other brides steal my venue, favors, date, etc. And both said brides will have people attending their wedding that will be at mine...I don't share much of anything.

You never know what type of experience someone had with their wedding or wedding planning. To each their own.

I say take the pic of the dress and post it somewhere and see what reponse you get. Someone will probably have the info you need.

I'd share everything, including costs, and ESPECIALLY if I got a great deal.

I've shared everything, including costs, except pictures of my dress...only my mom, dad and MOH have seen it. I've got to have a little surprise. :)

That being said, if someone fell in love with my dress at the wedding, I would most certainly give them all the info they wanted on it. Like cmkuno, I'd be flattered.

This.  My dress is the one thing I don't want to share. :)

Generally speaking, unless someone asks, I don't share much. No one is going to care as much about your wedding as you are. If it was a question of where I got something from, I have no problem sharing that information.
