Troy Venue

Has anyone ever been to the Somerset Inn in Troy?  I'm looking at it for a potential place for my reception.  I currently live in California, so I can't check it out in person.  Looking for feedback.
Thanks

The Somerset Inn is okay. It's a little old, and there are better choices in the Troy, Rochester, Birmingham area. There was a huge credit card fraud ring that went down there a few months back.
If your looking for hotels try the Troy Marriott, the Royal Park in Rochester, or the Townsend in Birmingham.
If you don't mind venturing out a little bit, my DH and I had our wedding at the Novi Sheraton and everything was wonderful!! The food was AMAZING. Also, my sorority sister had her wedding at the Westin Book Cadillac in Detroit. IMO it's the prettiest venue in Michigan, and it's brand new.

I agree with Emily, it is a bit outdated.

Emily recommended some good places that are hotels. There is a hall on Big Beaver in Troy which does weddings, San Marino Club, link here:

There is also a posted thread at the top where each of the brides has indicated their vendors, including venues. Since most of us are here, we've looked at them.

    Welcome, and good luck.

I knew that it was a little dated.  I tried the Troy Marriott and they would not budge on their food and bev minimum.  I also looked at the casinos in Detroit.  We are having the ceremony in Clarkston and the groom is from Detroit.  I thought it was a good middle area.
Does anyone know about the food there?
    Thanks for your input

I agree with the San Marino Club! I almost forgot about them! My other sorority sister is having her wedding there and keeping her entire budget under 10K.

I was looking for a hotel for a venue since I will be having a lot of out of town guests.  I tried the Troy Marriott and their food and bev minimum was 10k.  I am trying to keep the reception under 10k out the door.  I tried the Townsend and Royal Park and both were too pricey for me :(
    Thanks for all the help.

OK Megs, now I understand the geography better.

I've been to catered events at the Auburn Hills/Pontiac Marriott, put on by a prestigious law firm in the area (their annual holiday party). It was food stations and appetizers, but delicious. A link to their wedding plan area is here. It also states you can bring in some "select" caterers which may provide you with some leeway on pricing:

Not sure if you've checked them out or not. The Metro Detroit area is still feeling the effects of the economy big time. I'd think hotels would be ideal places to try to get some negotiations started on size of events and room costs.

FWIW, other areas you could look into that are near expressways and somewhat between Clarkston & Detroit would be Southfield (tons of hotels because a lot of businesses are there), Farmington and Farmington Hills.

    Good luck.

Try the Ramada Troy. I was there for an bridal show and the ballroom was nice.
Also try the Novi Sheraton. It's about a 20 minutes from the airport.  Like I said that's where we had our wedding, and I can't say enough about them. They were so good to us! A++++ Send me a PM if you have any questions!! Good Luck!

The Ramada Troy is now named The Met.  I believe the Sterling Inn is reasonable too with everything they include in their packages.

Also, if you're looking in that general area I know that if you have your reception at Lafayette Grande (which is actually quite reasonable with their pricing) there is a shuttle that goes from the Courtyard Marriott to Lafayette Grande if so many rooms are booked.  Did you ever consider something like that?
