I found out that my reception venue that I booked (OVER A YEAR AGO!!!) will be closing it's doors on Oct. 12th...just two weeks before my wedding (....I don't even know what to do...the invites have been printed and almost every venue in downtown Detroit is either already booked or way out of our budget.

OMG, that's awful! Lot sof good thoughts coming your way. I wish I had some advice to offer, but i don't know much about downtown venues.

Is your hall offering any kind of assistance finding another place? They better be giving you a refund!

Oh no! Is there any chance you can get your money back? What venue did you book? I'm definitely sending you lots of vibes and good thoughts. Hopefully the venue will be able to work with you. I just cannot believe they are closing their doors knowing well that they have weddings booked.

OH NO!!! What are they going to do for you? If I were you, I would check your contract. There was a clause in my contract with our hotel, that if the room we booked some how became unavailable, it is the hotels responsibility to find you another place. 

Also where have you called? If you haven't already, try the Roostertail, I hear they are very reasonably priced. Are you willing to look out of the city of Detroit?

Wow, tons of vibes your way. I would also check into the roostertail. The venue comes with chiavari chairs, silver pintuck linens and I think they have centerpieces too. I've been to a few weddings there and they are top notch.

I'd suggest trying Cliff Bell's and Centaur. They're less-known, so maybe not booked?

OMG - that is BEYOND terrible!  I certainly hope there is something in your contract that puts them at some responsibility for a refund, or finding you a new venue, or both.  Sending you tons of T&P that you can get this situated quickly!  So sorry!  I feel outraged right now and it isn't even happening to me!

So sorry to hear this is happening to you!  Major vibes being sent your way.  If you haven't sent the invites yet maybe you could just print up an insert to put in the invitation.  Just an idea so you don't have to start completely over with that too.    GL trying to find something.  Let us know if we can help!

I have a good friend who owns a business doing events exclusively in downtown Detroit...I can ask her for some suggestions if you have an idea of how many people you need room for...

I know exactly how you feel and it is horrible. I think I cried for 2 days when my venue closed on me. I think what people don't understand is that at this point you have everything planned exactly the way you want it and now it seems like your dream wedding is shattered.

I'm sending you vibes that you find a place that will work out for you. I did and still had an amazing wedding. Good luck!

OMG Teshia! I just checked their website, they still have their "wedding packages" up, seriously!

I just checked Olympia Entertainment's website, nothing at the Fox on 10/23, but the Wings are playing at the Joe, so there will be people around Hockeytown & the Fox garage.  I can second (or third) Centaur, it's lovely, here's their link for events. It's Park Ave right behind the Fox Theater (not sure about complimentary parking at the garage, however):

There's the Hilton Garden Inn, near Comerica and Ford Field at 351 Gratiot. Not sure how many people you have coming, but I did a search on their website for banquet for 200 and it came up available for your date. You would have to call them though, as they don't have menus online.

Union Street Station on Woodward does catering, not sure how many they can fit in their restaurant. Here's their menu, cost is $25.50 per person to $28.50 per person, of course before alcohol.

Also, check into Andiamo's Riverfront. I know it's big, not sure how many people it holds.

There's Atheneum Suite Hotel, The Princess, Infinity & Ovation yachts, there's a great hall at Wayne State, St Andrew's Hall (not the music venue, this one is a former church, really pretty inside, not sure of the rental cost).

The Inn on Ferry Street can do outdoor receptions with seating up to 120 (not sure how many people you were having):

Teshia, I am SO SO SO sorry!  Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help you.  I am serious, we don't live that far apart.  I am now an expert at DIY invitations, so if you want to re-print before they go out, I'm happy to help you out!  Your wedding is still 2 months away, invites don't HAVE to go out until 6 weeks out, so it will be ok!  Taryn told me you were in invitation h*ll a couple weeks ago, so this must just be about the worst news ever!  You can do it though!!!  Your trusted Detroit knotties will find you a new venue and everything will be perfect.  There is still plenty of time!

That's TERRIBLE!  I'm so sorry that this happened to you - I hope it all works out for the best!  If the hall was so awful about this, they may have screwed something up on your big day!
