May outdoor wedding...

Sooo I was very happy today to set my wedding date of May 11,2013 and get a lot of things finalized then I thought about it....May is a very unpredictable month in Michigan do you ladies think it will be a stretch to have a riverfront wedding this early in the season?

Re: May outdoor wedding...

  • One of my favorite weddings (that I look at constantly because it was at my venue) was on May 1st. These pictures are lovely (cherry blossoms!) but the couple looks like they might be freezing. I also noticed that they have the sides down on their tent.

Like any wedding date, you would have to have a back-up plan for bad weather. A riverside ceremony might work, but I definitely would not do an outdoor reception that early in the year. It would get chilly at night, and people would be leaving in droves.

  • I think the riverfront wedding will be beautiful.

I definitely think you need to think about the weather.  When I graduated a few year ago we were supposed to have an outdoor ceremony but it was freezing and snowing the day of.
Look into tents with and without side walls and the possibility of a space heater if needed.  Also, if absolutely necessary could you have your ceremony indoors somewhere?  You should look into that too and then make a decision about what you think is best.

  • FI and I were originally planning a May wedding when we first got engaged, but exactly what you said, the weather is unpredictable, even the first weekend in June it always rains. We decided to push it back to the end of June.

  • We are having an outdoor wedding in May next year, but we made sure to have a back up plan just in case
