Places to visit for candy buffet!

Hi ladies! I will be in the Detroit area this weekend, and I want to stop at some candy places on my way out of town to start pricing out candy. I'm planning on stopping at Bulk Foods in Dearborn and Doc Sweets in Clawson. I don't think Rocky's is open on Sundays. Any other places I should put on my list? And can you visit Costco without a membership? Thanks!

If it's more convenient, there is also a Bulk Foods in Garden City -- at Ford Road and Middlebelt.

I've received newspaper inserts for Sam's Club and Costco with free day passes, but I don't think you can go in without a membership.  Unless you're buying liquor.  Apparently liquor is available to everyone.

I haven't been to Bulk Foods yet but I did check out Doc Sweets and they were a little pricy.  I've noticed that Meijer actually has pretty good prices on their bulk candy.  Just something to look into.  My mom went to Costco the other day in Madison Heights and was very disappointed in their candy selection.  I guess they don't have as much as they use to.

Ditto Meijer depending on what you're doing.  So we are doing little jars with green M&Ms in them.  We need about 50 pounds of M&Ms and to buy them bulk at Bulk Foods was $9.99 a pound...so $500.00.

Meijer bulk candy has generic M&Ms and they go on sale for $2.99 a lb.  We talked to the manager of that department and he said they came in 25lb boxes and he would order 2 of them for us so we didn't have to raid the bins.  He also told us he would give us the $2.99/lb price (regardless of whether it was on sale) when we wanted to order.  So $150.00 for the candy through them.

We overanalyzed the difference between the two...and we even did blind taste tests with people.  You can barely tell the difference and for $150 vs. $500, we're all for the generic brand.

Good to know, thanks! The Meijer by my condo is the worst, but there are some nicer ones around I will check out!

I live a half mile from Doc Sweets and just checked them out the other day. They have a great selection but are a little pricey. We were planning on using them for a few novelty items we will only buy a few of .
Anyone can legally go into Costco if you say you are looking at liquor. It is a state law. So if your just looking at prices and not buying you can just say your there for liquor. To buy the free one day pass would be the best.... or a friend.

    Good luck!

Thanks, ladies. Docs Sweets was the most expensive, but also the nicest! I filled out an event form to see what they quote they come up with. Bulk Foods had a good selection and better prices. And my friend recommended a place on Garfield in Clinton Township called Bulk Food Marketplace. They had the best prices for most things. They didn't seem to be as up on candy buffets, but I think they could help. I'll probably be doing a combination of several places...now I just need to figure out what candy I want & how much I need!
