kids menu...

For you lucky bstards that aren't inviting kids...continue to be grateful. In the meantime, I need some input! Typically I rock at wording stuff...but my mind is in 50 different places right now so suggest away.

Keeping in mind my wedding is uber formal as are our invitations...how should I word the insert for guests with children? We have a plated dinner so the response card asks guests to intial their selection...but I need to put in an additional piece indicating kids will have a different option if they wish.

Something like "guests 12 years and under will enjoy salad, chicken tenders, french fries and ice cream sundaes" etc. Any thoughts on how to class this up a touch?

Re: kids menu...

  • Your wedding is formal, and so should your RSVP cards be.

I'm assuming you will be using your responses to make your seating cards or seating chart as well. Initials may not do it, because many people in a household have the same initials. My ex's family of 5 all had the initials "JG".  I'm assuming you will have a card at each seat with that guest's menu choice. That means you want full names (I think, we had a buffet). I also recommend full names because one of Kevin's friends was bringing a "plus one" and I had to f/u with him to get her name for the place card since he just responded that 2 were coming without providing her name.......this, in spite of the fact we asked for the NAME of the attendees.

How were you going to do this without taking the child menu into account? Was it going to be something like below?

Please place your name next to the menu choice:

    Beef ___________________
            ____________________

    Chicken ________________
                 _________________

I would just add "Child's Menu" as a choice, with the appropriate names who are choosing this without indicating exactly what it is. Something like this:

    Child's Menu _________________
                        _________________

Most parents (like me) would assume it's something of a chicken tender or burger option, and most kids like things like that. If you feel compelled to indicate what it is, I'd probably put an asterisk after Child's Menu*, and in smaller print at the bottom indicate what that option is. I'd just put "Chicken Tenders and French Fries", leaving out the salad and sundae.

There may be others with better suggestions.

  • I think Sue's idea works. I think yours is fine, too, actually.

  • We are only putting inserts into the invitations that include children - this is completely separate from the response card.

Just wondering if there is a way to word the children's option insert properly.  The point is - if their child is 10 and would prefer a piece of filet mignon as opposed to chicken tenders, I want them to have that option.  I know some of my immediate family's children will prefer the fish or the beef over the kids option- so it has to say something to the effect of :

"an additional option is available for our guests 12 and under.  if your child would prefer chicken tenders blah blah blah please make note of that here" etc.  It's just hard for me to think of the most formal way to word this - any insight is appreciated.

    :)
