Local florist who rents heavy locked card boxes?

It was suggested to me by the reception coordinator at my hall that I try renting a 'heavy locked gift box' from my florist to use as a card box. My florist works out of her home so that isn't an option for me. Does anyone know of a florist who rents these out?

  • Interesting, Ive never heard of this but thats a good idea. In my family its kind of a tradition to make card boxes out of cardboard hat boxes and make it look like the wedding cake. And at the bottom we just super glue it together so that the bride and groom literally have to break it off in order to get the cards, specifically so that no one can take it or anything. We've made some really cute ones so thats something Im looking forward to making when the time comes.

  • I've never heard of a locking card box, but I guess since I found this by googling, they must exist:

The "clearance item" link has some 8 x 10 on sale from $44.99 (black) to $56.24 (white).
They also have some rustic ones.

There are more available by just googling "locking wedding card box". I've never heard of anyone renting them, but then I never looked into it before.

Would you be interested in making one?  I'm making mine that locks for under $30 and is very similar to what is in the link PP posted.

Also by heavy, how heavy are you thinking?

  • I can't imagine someone would have the amount of privacy to open your box and steal the cards individually during your reception unless you use an open basket or something. I think when people loose their boxes, the thiefs take the entire box. I had a BM make mine and it was one big present style box with three boxes stacked on top of each other and wrapped like a gift with decorations. If someone tried to grab that sucker, there is no way a guest wouldn't notice. Just make sure its not near an exit and if you are in a venue with other events, discuss your options with your venue coordinator.

I just think there are other alternatives you would be happy with rather than just buying a generic locked card box because you were told you should and it could be pretty expensive.

  • I would check with your reception venue. My hall is actually providing me with a complementary locked card box.

It's not the prettiest to look at. It's basicallya podium that you could set your guest book on that has a slit in the top for people to drop cards in. I'm probably going to print a sign that says "cards," put it in a pretty frame, and lay it on top of the podium because I'm doing an alternative guest book.

I'm not overly worried about cards getting stolen, but I figure it's one less thing to worry about. Good luck finding what you are looking for!

  • The Wedding Shoppe in Berkley rents card cages - don't know if they lock or not but they have a few different ones - large enough that they wouldn't be easily moved!
