color scheme + venue

Our wedding isn’t until late 2014 so we can save money. We’re looking at Cobblestone Farms because it and the caterer other ladies have recommended for it (Angel Food) fit in our budget. Here is my dilemma: a color scheme appropriate for the barn.

I’ve always wanted an ivory and gold color scheme (maybe black too…with twinkly white lights, sigh). My mother says those colors are “too elegant” for a barn venue. What do you ladies think?

Should I rethink my vision for something a bit more country/rustic? Or do you think the ivory + gold can make for a pretty contrast in such a rustic setting?
Thanks for any input!

Re: color scheme + venue

  • You could certainly make ivory and gold rustic! I think that would look beautiful.

  • I agree. You can work any color in any setting! It is your day, rock it out the way you want it!
  • I totally agree with the prior posters.  Brass can be rustic, and while not exactly gold colored, it's close. I've seen tons of brass candle sticks at Salvation Army and Goodwill (actually bought some previously).

To be honest, I think that a rustic setting with a semi-elegant event looks eclectic and cute. I've seen pictures of ivory crocheted lace or eyelet table covers in rustic settings, and you could use minimal black accents with a lot or a little of the gold or brass.

Just tell your Mom the "rules" don't always apply today. I'm probably her age, and being on the Knot for almost 3 years (wow), things are not the same as they used to be "back in the day".

Don't let others plan "your day" or rain on what you want.
  • I agree with Sue and the other ladies. I think that color scheme sounds perfect, and I love a more elegant color combo in a rustic setting. Its your day, do what makes you happy!
