Michigan-Detroit

reading suggestions?

since the Lansing board is usually so slow I am repeating this post here.I am looking for some readings for our ceremony. Since we have a little bit of a Michigan/Detroit theme to our wedding, I thought it might be nice to have readings from Michigan authors. Any suggestions?

Re: reading suggestions?

  • Well, Hemmingway lived in upper Michigan during the summers, but you'd have to google to find anything he said about love...........he wrote "For Whom the Bell Tolls", and I think that was a love story.

Elmore (Dutch) Leonard is a currently famous Michigan author, but he writes mostly crime stories.

You may not find connections from authors, but maybe Michigan actors who were in movies and spoke someone else's words??? Jeff Daniels was in some love stories, or maybe some lyrics from Madonna? Kid Rock? Eminem (LOL)?

    Sorry, not much help.

FWIW, we had "On Marriage" and "On Love" by Kahlil Gibran. Non-denominational poetic words.
