Need help with Mich name change!

Hi Everyone,

I'm a Wayne county resident.  I have 3 questions.

1. How does one "submit" their legal name change after the wedding?!!

2.  I've been meaning to change my middle name for a long time, can I do easily this at the same time - when I add my husbands name (after our ceremony)?

3.  I am keeping MY last name, as well (but taking my fiance's name as OUR definitive "last name".  So in other words, I plan on being:
Firstname Middlename Birthsurname Husbandssurname.  (No hyphens.)  Does this give me (ultimately) 2 middle names when all is said and done?  Is this okay?

Thanks!

    1. You start by taking the marriage cert to the Social Security office. Then you head over to the Secretary of State. From there you go to bank, work, etc.

    2. Don't know about changing a middle name if you plan to keep it but change it entirely.

    3. You can have 2 middle names OR 2 last names - you just have to let the SSA know when you're there. Either is fine.

Hi, I did the same with my name as you plan with yours.

It was not problem really. Social Security supports up to four names, so they processed it fine. Michigan Secretary of State only supports three names, so my "middle names" will be hyphenated on my driver's license.

Not sure what will happen with my passport - if it will be four distint names like SSA or if the middle names will be hyphenated.
    Kinda Regards, Erica

You will not be able to change a name that is not listed on the wedding license.  You can't change spelling or add to your name without a legal name change.  You can probably drop your middle name and make your maiden name as your middle name.
I had attempted to combine my last name with the husbands, but i needed to drop a S in the middle, but they wouldn't do it with out me going thru the courts, they said it altered the names and that is not what a marriage name change can do...hope this helps
