Hello everyone!

I have been on theknot for about a month now.  I was engaged 1 month ago today to my best friend!!!!!  I've been neck deep in the planning and realizing that I have a lot in common with many of you.  I'm not sure how much I'm supposed to say but I live in Rochster, grew up in Ypsilanti, and went to CMU.  We are planning a wedding for next summer.  So happy to meet all of you and look forward to a rollarcoaster of a time!

Hi! Welcome to the board! The girls here are the best and have a wealth of information to share. Do you have any ideas yet for your ceremony/reception? Have you set a date?

How did you meet your fiance?  Was it in college?
  • edited December 2011

Wow thank you I certainly feel welcomed!

I met my fiance at work.  We have been dating for 4 years.   He has a awesome 7yo son.  He actually just beat cancer!  He is the greatest and perfect for me!

I have a vision for the wedding but I'm not sure if it will work living in Michigan.  I was really liking the idea of a garden party wedding.  I was looking for places with tent wedding options but not had much luck.  We aren't nailing down the date until we have the venue.  We have the first couple weekends in July and August open so we are waiting to see which place fits us best.

Any suggestions on locations for reception?  I feel like I've gone crossed-eyed looking for something online. :)

Congrats and weclome!! I am from Rochester too : ) Have you looked at the Rochester Community House? It's very simple but definitely gives you that outdoorsy park setting since you're right in the park!

I'm sorry I can't be of help for reception venue ideas, but welcome and congratulations on your engagement!

Welcome! I think the garden party idea is a great theme. I love the idea of the Community House. Another option might be the Whitney downtown. They host actual garden parties all summer long, so I know they have the outdoor space. I bet you could even do a garden party at one of the metro parks or something like that!

    Hello and welcome!

Have you looked at River Crest in Rochester?  They have a gorgeous outdoor ceremony area.

Kelly, I think I might know you, but I can't be too sure. I went to CMU, too. :)

You could always look into having your wedding or reception at Stoney Creek. I have heard of some people doing that.
