Question for OOT brides....

For any brides who are from out of town and are getting married in Michigan.. how are you getting your dress there? I purchased mine in MI but brought it with me before we set a date and now I need to get it back to MI before October. I'm coming for a visit in August but I dont know if I should ship it or check it on a flight? Either way it could get lost.

I'm super nervous and am just wondering if anyone has experience with this situation?

Thanks!
Danielle & Tyler

I bought mine in MI and I'm doing all the fittings and stuff in MI as well, so I don't have any experience traveling with it. However, if I were you I'd carry the dress on the plane with me to eliminate the possibility of it getting lost. A lot of the time if you tell the flight crew it's your wedding dress they will hang it in the 1st class closet for the flight. Even if they aren't willing to do that and you have to store it overhead, I'd take the chance on it getting a few wrinkles in it if the alternative was it ending up somewhere else.

I am purchaisng my dress here in Seattle.  I've seen a few people carry their dress on the plane so I plan to do that and just get it steamed when I get back to Michigan.

I bought mine in Minnesota and my mom will be driving it out to me.  She comes out every fall to visit.  Sorry I'm not much help.

How big is your dress?  Could you carry it on?  That would be my first choice if it would fit.

I bought my dress in Dearborn for this very reason. However, as a frequent flyer,  I have seen several brides carrying on their dresses, no problem. The flight attendants I saw were all very understanding and were happy to do their best to either hang it for you or find a flat place for it. Good luck!

Okay great. Thanks for the help. I'll definitely plan to carry it on with me in August then, that way I won't have to worry about it in oct. (ive had all the fittings done already and its a lace up so I think I'll be good :)

    I really appreciate the help!

Oh what about security? Just shove it through the xray machine? haha

I would contact both the airport you are flying out of as well as the airline to find out what their policies are.  I think it's better to ask them directly.

I just brought mine as a "carry on" - the flight attendant didn't even think twice about putting it in the hanging closet & was very nice!

In Tampa though, you have to go through security twice (sort of) - you show your ID/Boarding Pass before you get on the tram & then go through traditional security after you get off the tram. The lady there gave me a really hard time & wouldn't let me through because I had too many "carry ons" (purse, bag & dress) - Thankfully my bag wasnt entirely too full & I was able to shove my dress in my bag until I was out of her sight. I was sooo mad!
