Hi everyone,
My name is Emily, I am 22 years old and finishing nursing school here soon. I just got engaged a few weeks ago to an amazing man, Matt, hes 26. We've been together a year and a half and are so lucky and happy to be sharing our lives together. He propsed to me, after asking  my parents permission by recreating our first date and getting down on one knee in a snow storm. It was so special. Anyways, we wanted to take our time and plan our dream wedding so we are looking at a spring 2014 date. I cant wait to get to know some of you and hear your stories and your advice!

Hi Emily! Welcome to the board, I am looking forward to hearing about your planning! I was engaged for a longer amount of time like you, I started at 1 year and 10 months and am at a year and 3 months- time is just flying! My biggest piece of advice for you is to not wait too long to start booking things- I booked my venue about a year and 8 months in advance and got in a battle with someone for my date. Also, the first 4 photographers I have contacted have been booked! I was really surprised actually! You have some time though!

Welcome to the board Emily! Congrats to you and Matt. A long period of planning is good, but like sparkles said, look around at what you want to book and secure that early.

Congratulations to you and Matt and welcome!  We will have an 18 month engagement when we get married and although I did not have any problem getting any vendor or venue I wanted I too would recommend not waiting.  This group is great and should help make your planning fun (wish I would have started on it a lot earlier then I did).

We'll have had just over a year engagement when we get married next month. I have to say, for me, it's been a bit long (too much lag time to procrastinate, I'm a deadline girl). But, the benefit of time is ensuring you get things exactly as you want.
