Vendor Review: DJ to NOT use

I know my wedding hasnt happened yet, but this is important for any bride looking in the Detroit/Flint and surrounding areas! DO NOT HIRE DJ Ben Mackie!!! I booked him back in April, email confirmation. My deposit was due today. I have emailed him twice in the last two weeks to get his address to send the deposit, I sent a text on Monday, no response. I called today and left and message and a text and he finally called back. He told me there was a conflict in his schedule, a friend of his wasd getting married on the same day as me and he was cancelling on me!!! So now I have to find a new DJ. I have an email confirming that he was booked bc we talked about all the songs for the events taken place during the reception and for the deposit due June 1st. UNACCEPTABLE behavior!!!! So future brides, save yourself and DO NOT HIRE BEN MACKIE DJ!!!!

  • Oh my!!!  I would be freaking out!!  Try Mike Staff, I have had a wonderful experience so far (though I haven't had my wedding yet).  They have 30 or more DJ's on staff so the odds of them having someone on short notice are a lot better than most places.  Good luck, I hope something works out for you!
  • That really sucks!!  When is your wedding?  My DJ Joe Cusumano, owner of JAC Entertainment has been fabulous as well!  Our wedding is a week from tomorrow so can't tell you yet how he did but so far he bas been great!!

  • That really stinks!  If you haven't found a DJ yet, contact Paul at Sunshine Entertainment.  He is great!  Good luck!

  • The problem is I live in Flint, and there is no Flint knot only detroit and surrounding areas. All the DJs being recommended, which I am grateful that all of you are trying to help, will charge between $100-$150 just in a travel charge! The sucky Ben Mackie lives down by Detroit, but he was only charging a $50 fee to come here. I did call the friend who recommended him and told her everything and now there are two of us on the warpath. She has gotten him 4 jobs, so now she feels bad and is warning the other 3. When I told him I was going to give him a bad review on the knot for being unprofessional, he LAUGHED at me and told me it meant nothing. So we will see how much nothing it means!
  • Try Davis Entertainment, they are small (I think only him & one other DJ), but they are in Grand Blanc. Reasonably priced.

His contact info is in my bio link below under vendors.
  • That sucks!

Try Mike Ziamba, owner of The Music Butler.  He's amazing to work with.

  • Try DJ Crashers. Not too expensive and they're based in Lake Orion, so they're much closer than detroit. My fiance and I met with the owner Saxon, and we LOVED him.
