Epoch Catering????

Has anyone used Epoch catering? I'm working on getting a propsal from them for my spring 2013 wedding but can't really find any reivews on their food or service. Any information would be really helpful. Other full serive catering suggestions are welcome as well - all in we're tryign to keep it around $70/head for apps, entrees, rentals & servers. Thank you

Re: Epoch Catering????

  • My venue only allows 3 caterers, and Epoch was one of them. They were pretty secretive about their prices, so I went with one of the other two.

I haven't actually used them yet, so I can't give a review, but their prices are worth checking out at least. I think we're at about $60pp.

  • Not familiar with Epoch, but a really budget friendly idea we happened upon was using the catering functions at gourmet stores in the area.

We had tastings at these 2:

    Joe's Produce in Livonia: http://www.joesgourmetcatering.com/

Holiday Markets in Royal Oak: http://www.holiday-market.com/catering.php

For both we met with the catering coordinator and did not go off their main menu. I am a "foodie" and we both knew what we wanted. I just told them my budget, which had to include every aspect (servers, onsite chef, equipment & foods) and we then had tastings. The food from both was delicious, but we went with Holiday Markets simply because of our preference for their food presentation, had nothing to do with price or quality.

With either one you will be able to get what you want within that price point.

You don't mention alcohol. We were able to bring in our own alcohol, and purchased in bulk from Champane's Wine Cellar in Warren (13 Mile Rd between Van Dyke & Mound). They have tens of thousands of bottles of wine, and you go in and tell the wine manager what you want to average per bottle (for us it was $10), they found 24 lovely bottles of various whites, reds, and champage, plus 2 dessert wines, for $220. My guests, many of whom were wine enthusiasts raved about the wines. They also sell beer and alcohol.

FYI: Alcohol ("hard liquor") prices in Michigan are set by the state. EVERY store has the exact same price for each bottle/brand. There are no places to find it cheaper (unless you have a military member or retired military member, then they can get it cheaper at Selfridge Air Force Base). My hubby is a retired veteran and we have gone to the liquor store at Selfridge a few times, they sell about 10-20% cheaper than other stores in Michigan.

I only told you about the above to save you some time if you wanted to look into alcohol. We had beer, wine and a signature drink only, but only had about 70 adults to buy for.
  • We used to use Epoch for work events at my last job. They were very good, but my event planner used to say they were "pricey". I have no idea what that means, and of course, based on your budget, it may work. I'd check 'em out.

  • My wedding planner tried to get in touch with them for pricing and no luck. I also called on one ocasson and the person I spoke to was supposed to email me a sample menu with pricing and I never heard back from them. No phone call or anything. Bad customer service. I decided to go with 2 Unique catering instead. They were friendly and accomodating from the start and came up with some wonderful menu options.
  • I had the same experience with Epoch and Plum Market catering, so we are using 2Unique.  Great customer service already!  We've meet once for an inital consultation and meeting; we are doing family style with Italian foods so I wanted to talk someone face-to-face.  The staff individual I met with was very professional and personable!  She had a table full of breakfast foods and coffee waiting for us.  The breakfast treats were delicious, and my FSIL had them cater for her shower, again phenomenal.  Simple yet flavorful.
