Don't use Cande's Cakes & cookies for your wedding!!!!!

She is a night mare I had her booked for my wedding but then cancelled her after seeing how she ruined my friends wedding day and all the bs I dealt with her. She told me and my wedding planner that if we decided to cancel the cake as long as it wasn't a week b4 the wedding we could use the deposit for a different cake. You pay for a filling that you CANT SEE and BARELY TASTE. My friend paid for over $100 worth of detail on her cake, the cake was all drawn up no problem, on the day of my friends wedding she was stunned to walk in to her reception to see a wedding cake that was not her design. Cande didn't even call her and let her know she changed the whole design of the cake... how professional. My friend had to contact her and then Cande said oh the original design didn't work so I changed it.....YOU DREW THE DESIGN UP U SAID IT WOULD WORK YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A PROFESSIONAL BAKER WTF.  Even worse she didn't apologize or refund any of the money that my friend paid for all the work cande didn't do. After seeing my friends day ruined and realizing that this lady isn't professional to the point where she didn't even send my a copy of my contract  for 7 month's I decided to call and cancel. I told her that we wanted to use the deposit on our nephews birthday cake she said she couldn't do that even though she told us previously it was no problem as long as it wasn't a week b4 the wedding well its 8 months b4 the wedding so whats the problem?  She is by far the worse vendor I have ever dealt with ladies do yourself a favor avoid CANDE'S CAKES & COOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take a deep breath!  This seems a little overly dramatic.  I'm pretty sure the cake didn't ruin the whole wedding.  It's just a cake, that you honestly only see for a short time before it's taken into the back to cut.  No one at a wedding expects the cake to be good anyway, and I doubt it was inedible based upon filling that you couldn't taste.

It's not the end of the world to cancel a vendor.  If you're truly that worked up over her, then it's best to cancel even if you don't get your deposit back.  And, despite what Cande may or may not have told you, the contract is what rules the day.  If it says that the deposit is non-refundable or something similar, then that's the way it is.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's experience. I agree with pp that it seems to have you very upset and maybe it's best to just cancel with her and lose your deposit if it is that upsetting to you. good luck.

Ditto Mel.  A cake does not ruin a wedding.  Me thinks you (and the other bride) are being a little overdramatic.  If you are this worked up over the vendor, cancel.  It's not worth the stress.

Also, why would you book a vendor that took 7 months to send you a contract?  That is just completely unacceptable and a HUGE red flag.

If a contract states no refund on deposit, it is because you are reserving that person for that day.  They potentially gave up business because you reserved them with your deposit for that wedding cake..not a birthday cake...that is why they ask for it.

As far as customer satisfaction, ideas for design sometimes may seem like a great idea but once you bring it to life it doesn't look good at all.  It is up to the professional to make sure that your cake doesn't look terrible and sometimes a choice has to be made in order to ensure its beauty.  If you make sure to give them a color swatch then there should be not issue.  Cande's Cakes and Cookies has done hundreds of cakes and this is the first unsatisfied customer.

That is such BS Sheree!  My wedding cake was perfect!  Don't try to get back at Cande just because you couldn't get a $50 deposit back.  You said you lost the contract and then dropped her to go with an Italian bakery...  WTF!!!  Deposits are non-refundable.  I know this, you know this, everyone knows this...  I can't believe you did this!!!

Perfect wedding cake for my perfect wedding!  I just got married in September and I could not be happier!  My husband :) and I met with Cande and designed our cake together...he even came without me dragging him.  Cande was amazing!!!  A beautiful five tier, ivory wedding cake!  Thank-you Cande!!!

I agree with the others that there's no use getting so upset over a cake. I'd definitely lose your deposit just to save yourself the headache.

I did actually meet this baker at a bridal show, and I have to say that I can understand your frustration with her demanor because she was SO rude to me when I inquired about her services and said I was getting married in 4 months. She said "Wow, what are you thinking?" among other things and just basically laughed in my face. We had been planning around the military which I told her so I found the comments to be very rude. I didn't care that she was dirt cheap (maybe this is a case of you get what you pay for) and I happily paid more $$ for a NICE vendor I found on weddingwire.

    For all:

This thread is over a year old.  The only reason it has been brought back is because the vendor herself created an account to respond.  She never indicated she was a vendor but her screenname included the owner's first and last name.  She has since been banned (under that account anyway).  After that banning, another "poster" came back to respond and it was extremely suspiscious.

I am going to go ahead and close this thread so that no further comments (on either side) can be made.  If you have any quesitons, please PM me.
