Registry?'s

I've started to think about our registry. And it seems a little overwhelming. So for those of you that have already registered, how did you decide on what to get? Is there a checklist or a trick to this? I saw that The Knot has a registry checklist and it looks helpful. But I was also on Sears' website and could not believe the different brands of blenders out there. So I gave up. How do you choose? I know we shouldn't go for the most expensive stuff out there. I'd like to get a range of things that everyone can choose from. We also plan on registering at BBB. Maybe they have a checklist of things that we should be getting.

Just out of curiousity -- why did you decide on Sears vs. Home Depot?  I thought you were considering HD.

We registered for items that we needed. All the stuff that we had belonged to DH and I  hated it so I registered for what I wanted. lol Another thing I hate shopping in stores so I did my registry online and it was less stressful. Austin and I went into the store once and that was it.

BBB has a checklist online, you can use it as a guide

I heard that not all HD participate in the wedding registries. I could be completely wrong though. We would really like to register at HD especially if we buy a house between now and the shower so we can register for things we need to renovate with. I guess you can't do the registry online or something. I'm not really sure.

We are breaking it into days. First we just went and had fun and registered for whatever we wanted at BB&B. Now we are sitting down (at home) and figuring out what we actually NEED room by room, and deleting the stuff we don't want on the registry!

We just bought a new house and therefore needed everything for the kitchen lol. so that was our main focus. we registered at target and BBB and they both will give you a checklist sheet as you go around and pick what you want. As far as for knowing which brand we wanted we kinda just picked what they had available in store and then went online and checked the reviews and if it had a bad review, we fixed our choices online.

We did BBB so far. They did have a huge checklist to use. I started one online first, but it is so much easier to go through tthe store with the gun and tag everything that you want.

I feel your pain Corinne!  We plan to start registering in March, but just for fun, we took a walk through Macy's kitchen department while we were out at the mall this weekend.  I thought I'd start with a simple decision, like cookware, but all the options made me dizzy!  I feel more lost and confused now than I did when I walked in the store.

I have noticed that most stores that have a wedding registry have some kind of a checklist online.  But IMO, they are crazy checklists.  There is just no way you need all that stuff!  I've started to make a general list of things I want, but the hard part is going to be selecting the specific item I want.  Because you're right, there's just a crap load of options!

Yeah, I just took a look at the registry checklist from BBB. It looks pretty detailed. I think that will help a ton!

I got overwhelmed too. We walked around BBB & just picked stuff we needed. Then I did a lot of tweaking over the weeks online. Like I'd be cooking something & think of a spatula or something I could use & I'd run & add it. I also stalked my cousin's registry & got some good ideas from hers.

We went to Bed Bath and Beyond, and I told the girl I already had fine china.  Then we went and scanned everything we could use or want.  Then I went home and we took off the things we really didn't need and added stuff we forgot.

We were going to stick with only BB & B, but went to do a Sears registry.  This was a nightmare.  Their website shows stuff from hundreds of stores, not just Sears. It takes a long time to go through your search results.  This wasn't nearly as bad as in the physical store, though.  The lady gave us this old old old scanner thing and it kept going out after 2 or 3 items. Every time we tried to register for tools or lawn & garden, it said we had scanned an ineligible registry item.  I would recommend dealing with the slow website and doing it there if you want anything other than kitchen or bathroom stuff.

Registering was and continues to be a nightmare. I really don't enjoy it personally. Though I do have to say BBB was much better than Walmart (which we chose because it had some lower end stuff and a wide range of items, and there is one alot closer to FIs family than BBB or any other major store).

We did it by going to the store and just walking isle by isle talking about things and picking them up and stuff.  I found it much easier to do in the store than online. I also used the mentality that if i changed my mind later I could return it or delete it online.

We're not registering until the summer, but I've already compiled a list in a Word document of everything we plan to register for. I think it's really important to look at all the stores beforehand, figure out which stores have what you want and need, and figure out what you want to register for before you go to the store. Use online checklists and reviews on the stores' websites. I really think that if you make a list before you go, it will be so much easier and you can make sure you're getting exactly what you want.

This past weekend we went to BBB and started registering, then we hit Target and Home Depot. What we did was think about what we have already in the house, what we need and what we need to update. We have been living together for a while so we pretty much have a good assortment of things for our house. What I suggest is that if you are really thinking about getting good quality items (the bigger more expensive items) try consumer reports. We did it for stuff like the blender, stand mixer, carpet cleaner, electric tooth brushes, vacuums and food processor and even a new hair dryer for me (even though I could run out and by the thing for 20 bucks..lol). It helped a bunch.   Hope this helps....

I know that some people didn't think this was a good idea but I had friends do this and they had a good outcome... we registered at BBB and Target and asking for Lowes gift cards.  We also just bought a house and want to do some renovations but Lowes doesn't do registeries anymore and it would be kinda hard to register for 2X4's and sheets of drywall.  I asked around to my friends who will be invited to the shower and they thought the gift card was a good idea especially for those people who won't be able to make it to the shower but would still like to send a gift (i usually still send a gift if I can't make it to a shower for someone).

We registered at Target, Sears, and JCPenney.  The FI and I have been living together for just over 6 months, so we pretty much have what we needed, but some of it is outdate, mismatched, etc.  So we registered for some stuff we wanted, some things we needed, and everything in between.  Our prices range from super cheap accessories to more expensive dishware.  We registered for camping stuff, new bedding, more towels, etc.  It was actually a pretty fun weekend!

Before you even ask what a sip and scan is: http://global.theknot.com/sitelets/macyssipandscan/

I only know about it because my friend works at Macy's - had never heard of it before then.

They don't have any locations right now - but they should soon.. they just had one out at Somerset in January.

IN fact - there is going to be one 3/14 @ 11am - somewhere close by... somerset or novi - I'm guessing.
